Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) Division provides industry leading metrology solutions for worldwide semiconductor IC manufacturers. The FaST Division portfolio of metrology products includes hardware and software solutions for optical film thickness, optical critical dimension (CD), composition, and resistivity measurement systems. These products are essential for the IC manufacturers as they provide critical metrology capabilities for the development and implementation of their advanced IC processes. The FaST division is committed to support our customers to achieve performance entitlement of our solution and we effectively partner with our customers from their early research and development phase to the high volume in-line manufacturing implementation specific for their process needs. The division consists of a global team located in US, Israel, China, and India.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

Overview of Role This position is for an Electrical Engineer to support the design and development of semiconductor capital equipment. The position spans development of new products as well as support of existing ones. The role requires strong hands-on electrical design, system integration, and troubleshooting skills in a cross-functional development environment.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Development

  • Perform analog and digital electrical design for prototype and production boards, including schematic capture, board bring-up, and validation.
  • Own and drive board-level design activities, including power, signal integrity, and mixed-signal interfaces, in collaboration with system and architecture teams.
  • Contribute to FPGA-based designs, including requirements definition, integration, and debug at the system level.

Hands-On Electronics Assembly & Integration

  • Perform hands-on assembly, integration, and modification of electronic boards and sub-assemblies, including cables, connectors, and harnesses, for prototype and pre-production systems.
  • Support mechanical and electrical integration of electronic assemblies at the system level.
  • Perform rework, repairs, and hardware modifications as required to support development and validation activities.

Prototype Validation Support

  • Perform hands-on electrical work in the clean room on prototype tools, including installation, powerup, performance validation, and debug.
  • Support early hardware validation activities, own electrical redesign efforts when required, and implement improvements to enhance robustness and performance.
  • Work closely with system engineers during prototype phases to ensure electrical requirements are met.

System Troubleshooting & Escalation Support

  • Lead and support troubleshooting of complex board, FPGA, and system-level electrical issues on prototype and pre-production tools.
  • Provide escalation support, including root cause analysis and definition of corrective actions.
  • Interface directly with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve critical technical issues impacting program milestones.

Program & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Program Managers to define, track, and implement electrical requirements across programs.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Software, Systems, and Mechatronics teams to ensure successful end-to-end system integration.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and clearly communicate electrical trade-offs, risks, and recommendations.

Vendor Interface & Travel

  • Interface directly with external vendors to support new hardware development, assembly and integration issues, and design improvements.
  • Travel to vendors as needed for troubleshooting, reviews, and hardware qualification activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years
