Job Title: Insurance Verification Specialist Location: San Pedro, California, 90732 Position Summary: The Insurance Verification Specialist supports ED Admitting and SubAcute Admissions by ensuring accurate insurance verification, patient intake, and authorization processes. This role plays a critical part in securing appropriate reimbursement while delivering highquality customer service to patients, families, and internal care teams. Candidates will be crosstrained in both ED and SubAcute Admissions workflows. Key Responsibilities: * Confirm patient insurance coverage and identify authorization requirements for treatment * Complete patient intake and verify/update demographics using EPIC * Preregister patients and ensure correct insurance selection (HMO vs. PPO, Medicare, MediCal) * Obtain bed authorizations and coordinate admissions * Handle claims, request authorizations, and attach referrals * Identify services requiring prior authorization and ensure proper documentation * Collect copays and explain patient financial responsibility and shared costs * Receive and respond to calls from case managers, physician offices, and external healthcare facilities * Utilize medical terminology to support accurate documentation and communication * Collaborate with physician offices, ministries, and multiple departments across remote locations * Deliver exceptional customer service to patients and internal stakeholders both in person and over the phone Required Skills & Qualifications: * Strong customer service and communication skills * Experience with insurance verification and patient intake processes * Proficiency using EPIC (preferred) * Solid understanding of healthcare insurance plans and authorization workflows * Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced hospital environment Preferred Qualifications: * 3+ years of healthcare experience in a hospital setting * Bilingual in Spanish (plus) * Familiarity with ED or admissions workflows Top Skills - Must Haves: * Customer Service * Insurance Verification * EPIC * Patient Intake Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Long Beach, CA.
