DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the daily care and comfort of residents in the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. The role focuses on providing essential non-professional nursing care in a safe and respectful environment. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Resident Support: Assist residents with daily living tasks such as bathing, grooming, meals, and mobility in line with their care plans
  • Health Observation: Monitor resident conditions and report physical or behavioral changes to nursing staff
  • Safety Measures: Maintain a safe environment by identifying hazards, applying approved devices, and following all safety rules
  • Documentation: Record care activities and services accurately on required forms to meet regulatory and facility standards
  • Transport Assistance: Move and position residents safely using wheelchairs, stretchers, and other approved equipment
  • Environment Care: Keep resident areas clean, organized, and comfortable while supporting room readiness and personal item management

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (8 hours per day; 40 hours per week)
  • Work hours are 10:45 PM to 7:15 AM (3rd shift), including rotating days and weekends, with a 30-minute lunch. You will be required to work every other weekend.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,294.00 (before taxes).
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the launch of a Nursing Referral Program, promoting the hiring and retention of nursing staff at Pennsylvania's veterans homes. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.
Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
