THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays an important role in keeping institutional buildings and grounds clean and sanitary to support daily operations. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Floor Care: Maintain floors by mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing, and clean carpets, mats, and related surfaces
  • Linen Support: Prepare, deliver, and organize linen carts, clothing items, and other materials while keeping the linen room clean and disinfected
  • Equipment Operation: Operate manual and mechanical cleaning equipment by following instructions and using proper safety techniques
  • Cleaning Tasks: Clean rooms, furniture, fixtures, lavatories, dining areas, and kitchen areas and replenish supplies as needed
  • Outdoor Care: Sweep and hose walkways, maintain entrances, and remove snow and ice during inclement weather
  • General Assistance: Move furniture and equipment, launder curtains and devices, replace light bulbs, run errands, and report needed repairs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on a rotating basis, including weekends and holidays, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime: As needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willing and able to work in Franklin County, PA
  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, housekeeping, or cleaning person within an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, correctional facility, fast food or restaurant, cafeteria, or school is preferred (experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping; scrubbing; dusting; sweeping; or buffing)
  • Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing of infectious waste into proper storage areas
  • Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Work experience in the following tasks: operating a floor scrubbing machine, using ladders to clean high areas, proper handling of cleaning chemicals, interacting with patients or residents, snow removal from walkways and entrances, changing light bulbs, cleaning furniture, mopping (wet or dry), and scrubbing
