Sr. Closures Sealing Engineer
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for a Senior Engineer to join theMechanisms and Sealing Teamof the Closures Engineering Design Department

The Position: The Sr. Closures Sealing Engineer would support the development of advanced closure systems for Hyundai's next-generation vehicles. This position plays a critical role in the end-to-end engineering of functional, innovative, and aesthetically integrated closures, including side-door static and dynamic sealing systems, as well as unique, innovative closure concepts.The ideal candidate combines hands-on product development expertise with strong leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration skills in the U.S. SUV, pickup truck, and off-road vehicle marketplace.
What You Will Do:
- Design and develop closure sealing systems, especially door systems
- Lead cradle-to-grave design, development, and validation for closure sealing systems using CATIA V5
- Own system integration and functional performance of predominantly side closures, in addition to supporting efforts concerning hoods, tailgates,sunroof systems, charge port doors, and fuel filler doors
- Drive innovation in lightweight materials usage, modular design, and user ergonomics
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings with proper GD&T in CATIA V5
- Develop DFMEAs and DVP&Rs, conduct virtual analysis, and support physical validation efforts
- Interface with suppliers concerning design feasibility, cost, and tooling readiness
- Collaborate with design, BIW, NVH, electrical, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure robust integration and seamless vehicle functionality
- Support prototype builds and lead issue resolution during pilot and launch phases
- Work closely with assembly plants to validate manufacturability and assembly robustness
- Support launch, issue tracking, and continuous improvement efforts
- Mentor and guide junior engineers on best engineering practices
- Travel up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally
What You Will Bring to the Role:
- Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field
- 7+ years of professional experience in closure sealing (static and dynamic)
- Experience with pickup trucks, SUVs, or off-road vehicles is highly preferred
- Proven experience in an automotive OEM or Tier-1 supplier environment, following formal development processes (e.g., APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, etc.)
- Proficiency in Catia V5 for 3D modeling, including surface modeling, assemblies, and 2D drawing generation
- Experience with CAD data management and revision control
- Sound understanding of sealing design, assembly, and tooling
- Experience in cradle-to-grave product development best practices and processes
- Experience planning and executing vehicle or component tests (e.g., durability rigs, track testing, and NVH evaluations)
- Ability to develop test plans, interpret data, and implement design improvements
- Familiarity with FMVSS, SAE standards, and global regulatory requirements
- Track record of leading technical projects or teams
- Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Adept in Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
- An ability to prepare reports/spreadsheets (when needed) to support project-related work
- Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
- Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to diagnose complex issues (e.g., failure analysis, dimensional studies, subjective testing, etc.) and develop robust solutions under tight timelines and in cooperation with adjacent teams
- Willingness to attend training sessions, workshops, or conferences to enhance skills and knowledge
- Project management experience
- Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field
- Experience integrating sealing solutions and systems
- Exposure to innovation concerning advanced technology development projects
- Understanding of closure sealing, NVH, wind noise, and manufacturing variability
- Experience with vehicle program launches (from concept to production)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Six Sigma certification
- Prior patents or significant contributions to new product development
