This is a casual position. A casual is a non-benefit eligible position that is not guaranteed any hours but can pick up open shifts. Purpose of Job This position is responsible for assisting staff in the coordination of intra- and inter-departmental activities and communication. Also responsible for performing routine activities in the decontamination, reprocessing and sterilization of supplies, instrument trays, and equipment necessary for patient care. May also assist with patient-related activities under the supervision of the RN. Job Functions
- Answers telephones providing professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
- Communicates pertinent information regarding unit/department activities to appropriate staff.
- Restocks and orders supplies for unit/area.
- Completes assigned clerical responsibilities.
- Performs support functions for management staff as required.
- Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Surgical Services.
- Provides specialized experience and direct responsibility for providing clean and sterile medical/surgical supplies and equipment for use in all patient care areas in-house and for all off-site clinics.
- Utilized appropriate techniques in preparation, packaging and sterilization functions and maintain a basic knowledge of microbiological principles for SPD practice.
- Performs testing and documentation of sterilization function with appropriate graphs and indicators.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent
- 1-3 years of experience in a medical administrative role
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job function as mentioned above
- Knowledge of basic computer functions
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
- Ability to work autonomously and as a team
- Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paces environment
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
License/Certifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of Health Unit Coordinator Course
- SPD basic equipment experience with knowledge of sterilization methods and procedures, instrumentation, and aseptic technique
- SPD Certification
