Development Coordinator

Los Angeles Waterkeeper
$35-40 per hour
United States, California, Los Angeles
May 05, 2026

Los Angeles Waterkeeper (LAW), a dynamic environmental nonprofit organization that fights for the health of the region's waters and communities, is seeking a highly organized development professional to join our team as Development & Events Coordinator. This part-time position provides immediate capacity in development operations and event coordination, supporting the Managing Director directly during an active period of organizational transition.

The Development & Events Coordinator will handle the operational backbone of LAW's fundraising and events program — donor database management, gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and event logistics support — freeing the Managing Director to focus on donor cultivation and other major fundraising priorities. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role well suited to a development professional who is highly organized, self-directed, and can contribute meaningfully from day one.
This position reports to the Managing Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Development Operations — Maintain and update LAW's donor database (Bloomerang), including gift entry, pledge tracking, and data hygiene; process donations and generate timely, accurate donor acknowledgment letters; support execution of LAW's donor stewardship activities and communications; assist with prospect research and development of donor and email lists; prepare development reports and summaries for the Managing Director; and support administration of fundraising appeals and day-to-day development communications.
  • Event Coordination — Support project management and logistics for LAW's key fundraising and programmatic events, working alongside LAW's longtime Event Planner (contractor). Events include Making Waves (LAW's signature annual fundraising gala), Recharge LA (a 2-day water policy conference), the Infrastructure Justice Symposium (a public convening on equitable water infrastructure), and Seaside Sips (annual board dinner & donor cultivation event). Event support responsibilities include invitations management and RSVP tracking, maintaining event timelines, task lists and budgets in coordination with the Managing Director and Event Planner, and post-event follow-up including attendee capture, thank-you communications, and database updates.
  • Administrative Support — Provide administrative support to the Managing Director on development-related tasks; assist with formatting and production of donor collateral including proposals, impact reports, and appeal materials; and participate in relevant staff meetings and team activities.

Qualifications & Requirements:

The Development & Events Coordinator will be a self-directed, detail-oriented professional with hands-on nonprofit development or fundraising operations experience. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Minimum 3 years of nonprofit development, fundraising operations, or event coordination experience
  • Hands-on experience with donor database systems; Bloomerang or similar CRM strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate fundraising or community events from planning through execution
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Comfortable working independently in a small team environment
  • Clear, professional written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite and project management tools; Asana a plus
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and LAW's environmental mission
  • Environmental or advocacy nonprofit background a plus, but not required

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Some evening and weekend work is required for events throughout the year.
  • Travel within LA County and access to reliable automobile required.
  • Able to work on a computer for extended periods; able to read a computer screen and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard.
  • Able to speak clearly on the phone and in person and be understood by others.
  • For events, meetings, and a safe office, COVID-19 vaccination is strongly requested from all staff and personnel.
