About this Position
The Project Controller and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst ensures financial and operational control of client projects from initiation to closeout and supports the overall company, compiling financial metrics and leading forward looking financial reporting. This position collaborates with project managers to manage reporting needs, process change orders and maintain compliance along with the leadership team on corporate financial metrics. The role supports projects across multiple offices and may require a mix of in-office and remote work.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Project Controller: Project Set-ups and Closeouts, change orders, project Contract Compliance, project reporting, project support, invoicing
  • FP&A Analyst: Prepare, analyze, and model corporate-wide financial metrics
  • Support project managers to support successful delivery throughout the overall project lifecycle. Tasks include setting up projects, tracking contract adherence, processing and tracking change orders, closing out projects, tracking budget, invoicing, etc..
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute project financial reports, including budget analyses, performance metrics, and schedule updates, and work with project managers on corrective actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and refine annual budgets and rolling forecasts, incorporating project pipeline data and resource assumptions
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reporting packages for the leadership team, with clear variance commentary
  • Build and maintain financial models to support scenario planning, revenue forecasting, and resource utilization analysis
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and flag trends that require leadership attention
  • Provide assistance to other financial team members with accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and other general accounting tasks.
  • Lead the development of project rate tables and ensures their accurate usage.
  • Identify and develop systems, processes, templates, and standard operating procedures to improve the operations of the financial team and help project managers successfully deliver projects.
  • Serve as a liaison between operations, finance, and the leadership team
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or similar field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-7 years of experience in either Business, Accounting, or similar experience is required. Experience in the environmental field, engineering, construction, or consulting is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing client project lifecycles, including setup, documentation, and closeout processes in accounting or project management systems. Experience with municipal, state, or federal projects is a plus.
  • Experience processing and tracking change orders, task orders, and purchase orders with organized records.
  • Experience with financial forecasting, budget tracking, and collaborating on cost analysis.
  • Strong skills and experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel (including pivot tables and advanced formulas).
  • Familiarity with financial or project management systems. Experience with ERP systems (Deltek Ajera is a plus) and experience with Power BI is a plus.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and eagerness to learn about new technologies, including AI, to support continuous improvement of financial and project control processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments at the same time.
  • Strong customer service skills along with a willingness to consistently provide information in a timely manner and work across teams, including following up with supervisors on items such as utilization and average charge rate and project managers on profitability.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently or in a group.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
