Job Details:

Purpose

The Instructional Designer will focus on supporting campuswide academic technology initiatives, including EAB implementation, Academic Integrity initiatives, course evaluations, and digital pedagogy efforts. The Instructional Designer uses established instructional design methods and learning science principles to create effective and meaningful academic technology learning experiences for CSUs, faculty, and staff - including applying core instructional design principles and theories to maximize engagement and support successful academic technology transformation efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Use established instructional design methods to design technology-enhanced learning experiences - including measurable learning outcomes, performance indicators, and aligned activities - for campus-wide academic technology initiatives.
  • Develop instructional assets (guides, tutorials, job aids, multimedia resources) grounded in evidence-based learning science and tailored to distinct audience needs (CSUs, faculty, staff, students, and administrators).
  • Apply established learning science principles to ensure training curricula are accessible, scalable, and aligned with institutional adoption goals.
  • Partner with the Project Manager and Training Specialist to ensure designed learning experiences are delivered on schedule and translated into facilitation-ready materials, session plans, and facilitator guides.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, cognitive science, learning science, educational psychology, curriculum design, instructional design, instructional technology, UI/UX, or related field. 2+ years of experience with AI tools in education, AI agents, custom GPTs, GPT tutors, or instructional design.
  • Demonstrated understanding of pedagogy, universal design for learning, and experience integrating educational technology tools into academic settings.
  • Demonstrated experience building successful learning experience design products, including courses, toolkits, and/or assets.
  • Established ability to work and communicate with various unit stakeholders and contributors at all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional visual, written and verbal communication. Excellent planning and organization skills. Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn from mistakes, be responsive to leadership, troubleshooting, problem-solving, risk mitigation, and timely decision-making.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines. High tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Skill in working independently and as a strong contributor to a team.
  • Ability to accept and integrate feedback well. Strong desire to learn and teach oneself as well as others.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education, cognitive science, learning science, educational psychology, UI/UX curriculum design, instructional design, instructional technology, computer science, or related field.
  • Experience building and deploying custom AI agents, GPTs/GPT tutors in higher education.
  • More than the required years of experience with AI tools and instructional design.
  • Experience working in a university academic setting with faculty and/or advisors.
  • Graphic and/or visual communication background.
Salary Range

$75,000 + depending on qualifications
