LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF LABOR & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, KNOX COUNTY Qualifications Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in safety, industrial engineering, sciences or other related field and experience equivalent to at least six (6) months of full-time increasingly responsible professional occupational safety inspection work or acceptable related work. OR An associate degree in safety, industrial engineering, sciences or other related field and at least two and a half (2.5) years of occupational safety inspection work. OR An Associate/two year degree in safety, industrial engineering, sciences or other related field, eighteen (18) months of full-time increasingly responsible professional occupational safety inspection work, and completion of TOSHA's 12 month internal apprenticeship program. Necessary Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid vehicle operator's license. Overview Under immediate supervision, is responsible for professional occupational safety inspection work of average difficulty and performs related work as required. This is the working-level class in the Occupational Safety Specialist sub-series. An employee in this class is responsible for evaluating workplaces to identify and mitigate safety hazards in compliance with Tennessee OSHA (TOSHA) regulations. This class differs from the Occupational Safety Specialist 1 in that an incumbent of the latter performs at the entry level. This class differs from and Occupational Safety Specialist 3 in that an incumbent of the latter performs complex technical inspection work. Responsibilities 1. Handles complaints, resolves disputes, and addresses grievances and conflicts. Provides guidance on a broad range of technical issues across public and private sector facilities to support regulatory compliance.
