Job Summary
The Manager of Medical Staff Governance & Credentialing is a key leader responsible for driving the integrity, efficiency, and compliance of credentialing and medical staff governance operations at UC Davis Health. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Medical Staff Governance, this role ensures seamless credentialing and privileging processes while strengthening governance practices across the organization. This position leads high-performing teams of Medical Staff Program Analysts and Medical Staff Services Specialists, oversees daily operations, and partners closely with clinical and executive leadership. The Manager directs the Credentialing & Privileging Committee, ensures compliance with Title 22, The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, and NCQA standards, and plays a critical role in survey readiness and regulatory response. As a subject matter expert, this leader navigates complex credentialing and governance challenges, drives continuous process improvement, and advances operational excellence to support high-quality, patient-centered care. - 5+ years of progressive experience in medical staff services, credentialing, or healthcare administration
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Experience with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., TJC, CMS, NCQA, Title 22)
- Knowledge of credentialing and privileging processes in a hospital or health system setting
- Expert knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS Conditions of Participation, Title 22, California Business and Professions Code, California Health and Safety Code, Medical Board of California regulations, California Nurse Practice Act, and NCQA standards
- Advanced writing and communication skills with the ability to develop clear, concise, and accurate documentation for internal and external audiences
- Strong analytical judgment, political acumen, and decision-making skills in a high-stakes healthcare environment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Advanced data analysis and interpretation skills, including the ability to present findings in clear, actionable formats
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with leadership and key stakeholders.
- Ability to perform statistical analysis and apply performance improvement methodologies
- Expertise in credentialing systems and processes, including primary source verification (e.g., NPDB) and credentialing platforms such as CredentialStream
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS)
- Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM)
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience supporting accreditation surveys and regulatory audits
- Experience in teaching, training, and public speaking
- Leadership experience within an academic healthcare or complex health system environment
