GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Position is responsible for the direct supervision of the shipping, receiving and warehouse team members and activities for the Indianapolis facility. This consists of giving direction to team members regarding daily activities pertaining to but not limited to material receiving, storing, issuing, staging and shipping according to schedule demands. This position reports directly to the Transportation & Logistics Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees the shipment process of all outbound products and ensures team members follow standard processes associated with shipping activities.



  • Oversees the receiving process of all inbound material and ensures team members follow standard processes associated with receiving activities.
  • Oversees the storage, retrieval and control of all warehouse inventories and ensures team members follow standard processes associated with warehouse activities. Warehouse activities will include offsite storage as well.
  • Ensures that department costs are controlled and budget is adhered to.
  • Oversees housekeeping and orderly arrangement of the shipping/receiving and inventory areas.
  • Initiates changes designed to improve the control and efficiency of the shipping, receiving and warehouse areas.
  • Performs a variety of personnel functions with persons in span of control. This includes activities such as: interviewing, recommending for hire, orienting, directing, rewarding, disciplining, developing performance plans, coaching, training, appraising performance, and recommending for dismissal.
  • Communicates regularly with team members to inform, answer questions, and plan activities to meet department requirements.
  • Assures that team members meet requirements of the position and are adequately trained to perform assigned functions.
  • Reviews performance objectives and goals with individuals as needed and prepares annual performance review for individual performance in cooperation with the Materials Manager.
  • Assures that established quality levels are met or exceeded. Participates actively in creating and implementing any needed corrective actions.
  • Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of the department activities. Assures that these reports are accurate and available in a timely manner.
  • Schedules overtime, vacations, etc. for all direct reports. Approves time punches for payroll each pay period. Monitors attendance for direct reports.
  • Actively supports and adheres to SCS policies and assures that team members abide by such policies. Administers corrective actions as needed.
  • May assist in other areas or perform other duties as required by fluctuating business needs.


ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

May be responsible for the proper disposal of waste materials or chemicals by an outside vendor. May maintain log of hazardous materials shipped and received.

Will address employee inquiries and complaints, and will resolve problems by using appropriate resources/other departments to achieve results/answers.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required; some post high school education is preferred. Five years of related experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting. Experience in Materials or Logistics Supervision role is desired. APICS CPIM Certification is desired, but not required. Fork truck driver certificate / training required.

BASIC SKILLS:



  • Possesses well-developed communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and work instructions.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and/or customers.
  • This position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (MSWord, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage people, resources and multiple priorities.
  • Strong ability to make decisions quickly. Rapidly analyze the downstream impact of such decisions, and know when to seek advice/guidance from others.
  • Ability to give and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop personnel.
