The UW-Madison Police Department is hiring a Court Services Liaison. The Court Services Liaison, under the general supervision of the Investigative Services Sergeant, provides administrative support, preparation, and coordination with sworn officers of court documentation and records. Primary responsibilities include providing court-related services to the general public, attorneys, and other government agencies. This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of court practices and procedures as it relates to diverse cases and performs a wide variety of responsible and complex legal clerical duties necessary to judicial administration and related work as required.

UW-Madison Police Department employees will support the department's vision and mission by operating in a fair, unbiased manner which respects the rights, safety and dignity of all individuals. Employees will assist or participate on an as-needed basis with the department's recruiting and hiring efforts and the onboarding of new employees in the work unit. Department employees are expected to work in partnership with the campus and area communities to provide leadership in solving community problems, preventing crime and providing a safe environment to fulfill the mission of the University.

This position will be required to work special events or assignments as designated by the Department. This position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. This position will be required to appear in court as needed. The general hours will be business hours Monday - Friday. Occasional work beyond or outside hours agreed upon may be required during critical time periods related to various cases. The final work schedule will be discussed and agreed up on with the Captain of Investigative Services.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Required to work special events or assignments as designated by the Department.

  • Maintains, reviews, and validates citations through the automated system
  • Completes criminal intake process for all cases sent to the District Attorney for prosecution and tracks progress of case throughout the system
  • Creates and maintains a daily court schedule of cases and distributes court schedules to line level police officers and detectives
  • Upholds high integrity, professional, and ethical standards
  • Reviews and prepares police reports, evidentiary items, photographs, and other physical evidence and documentation
  • Assists records and management staff in fulfilling open records requests related to law enforcement calls for service and reports and other records related issues

Salary range: $23.00 - $39.00 (hourly)

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and demonstrated expertise. The upper end of the salary range is typically reserved for candidates who bring significant, directly relevant experience and who demonstrate exceptional depth and breadth of knowledge, sustained high-level performance, and specialized skills that add substantial value to the University. Candidates considered at this level are expected to serve as subject-matter experts, mentors, and key resources within their area, reflecting a premium alignment with current market benchmarks.

Night & Weekend Differential: UWPD offers a $2.50/hr night differential for all hours worked between 6:00pm - 6:00am and a $2.00/hr weekend differential for all hours worked between 12:01am - 12:00am on Saturday and Sunday. These differentials are layered, so when working a weekend night, you will receive both.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year experience managing complex and progressively responsible administrative duties.

  • Minimum of 1 year experience providing customer service and support.

  • Ability to help prepare and proofread timely correspondence and reports.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately.

  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.

  • Evidence of effectively working independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to interact and work with a high level of professionalism, flexibility, judgment, and tact.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize office related technology including Microsoft Office Suite products, database software systems, internet-based tools, and other necessary technology.

  • This position requires a valid Wisconsin Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and also meets UW Risk Management Standards.

  • Candidates must pass the initial application screening, all steps of the hiring process, an extensive background investigation including past employment, reference checks, social media check, credit history, drug screen, and medical and psychological examination prior to beginning employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with or in a court system, law office, law enforcement setting, or related work environment with substantial responsibility for identifying, processing, and preparing a wide variety of legal documents associated with court actions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to understand and use legal terminology, legal format, and processes.

  • Knowledge of State and Federal Statues and ongoing statutory changes related to this position.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and to keep appropriate court matters confidential.

  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other local and statewide legal system agencies, law enforcement agencies, interdepartmental officer personnel, attorneys, litigants, victims, witnesses, family members, and the general public.

Education:

H.S. Diploma required.
