Summary The Electrical Engineer II is responsible for the design and development of power distribution systems with a focus on utility and substation infrastructure. This role supports projects involving medium- and high-voltage systems ranging from 13.2 kV to 500 kV, including substations, feeders, and associated protection and control systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in substation design, a strong understanding of utility power distribution requirements, and the ability to produce and review engineering deliverables through various phases of design and construction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Core Engineering Responsibilities
- Design and support utility and substation infrastructure projects involving medium- and high-voltage power distribution systems ranging from 13.2 kV to 138 kV (500 kV preferred) , including substations, feeders, protection and control systems, and utility interconnections. Responsibilities include equipment selection, engineering analysis, preparation of technical deliverables and support of design reviews, and support coordination with utilities, internal teams, and project stakeholders.
- Develop engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts, drawings, specifications, and other engineering deliverables.
- Assist with engineering calculations and analyses related to power distribution systems.
- Apply knowledge of utility standards and interconnection requirements for transmission and distribution systems.
- Review and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and studies to ensure accuracy and completeness of deliverables.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards including IEEE, NEC, NESC, and local utility and municipal requirements.
Project Execution
- Coordinate with internal teams, utilities, and external stakeholders to ensure design compliance and project alignment. Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes.
- Support engineering projects through various phases of design and construction under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
- Occasional Travel Required (~15%). Site visits to document the existing infrastructure. Support engineering evaluations, site assessments, and construction support activities as needed.
Technical Expertise
- Exposure to standby power systems and distributed energy resources (DER) including PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and EV charging infrastructure. Familiarity with generators, automatic trans switches, and utility interconnection requirements is preferred.
- Perform complex engineering calculations and analyses. Working knowledge of engineering software applications and analytical tools and resources used in Electrical Engineering (SKM, ETAP, CYME, Excel Tools, etc.).

Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- EIT Certification required, Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- 3-6 years of electrical engineering with a focus on power distribution and substation design.
- Working knowledge of medium-voltage and substation design systems.
- Strong understanding of power system fundamentals and utility distribution systems.
- Experience with engineering studies such as short circuit analysis, coordination studies, and load calculations.
- Familiarity with substation equipment including transformers, breakers, relays, switchgear, and protection systems.
- Working knowledge of engineering software such as ETAP, SKM, CYME, or similar tools.
- Assist with reviews and development of engineering deliverables.
- Knowledge of applicable standards and codes.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar design tools; Revit experience is a plus.
