This is an onsite leadership opportunity supporting Islander Housing and the university's residential experience through strategic facilities operations, maintenance management, and customer-focused service delivery.

About this role:

The Director, Housing Facilities serves as a key operational leader for Islander Housing, overseeing facilities management, maintenance operations, capital improvements, vendor partnerships, and customer service delivery for university housing facilities.

This role is ideal for a facilities leader who enjoys balancing strategic planning with hands-on operational leadership. The Director will lead maintenance, custodial, grounds, and administrative teams while partnering closely with campus stakeholders, vendors, students, and families to ensure housing facilities are safe, functional, and student-centered.

The Director will also play an important role in long-range planning, preventative maintenance strategy, summer turnover operations, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance both operational effectiveness and the resident experience.

How you will spend your time

Facilities Management (60%)

    Lead strategic and day-to-day facilities operations for Islander Housing
  • Develop and maintain preventative, deferred, and corrective maintenance programs and procedures
  • Oversee unit turnover and refresh processes to support successful student move-ins
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts related to facilities services, including landscaping, elevators, pest control, fire systems, pools, and summer turn support
  • Coordinate building maintenance projects, renovations, and construction progress from planning through occupancy
  • Serve as the primary facilities contact for Housing Operations, responding to student and parent concerns with professionalism and customer-focused problem solving
  • Provide leadership updates related to work orders, maintenance operations, and facilities projects
  • Support long-range facilities planning, compliance efforts, quality improvement initiatives, and operational controls
  • Ensure housing facilities meet university standards, policies, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Participate as a member of the housing leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and operational decision-making
  • Manage designated operational budgets and support communication efforts related to facilities services and projects

Team Leadership & Supervision (30%)

  • Lead and supervise maintenance, custodial, grounds, and administrative support staff
  • Establish clear expectations, workflows, and accountability measures for team members and student workers
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership development for facilities staff
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support employee growth and engagement
  • Coordinate presentations and updates related to construction and facilities progress
  • Monitor operational performance and establish metrics to evaluate departmental success
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture focused on operational excellence and responsiveness

Additional Responsibilities (10%)

  • Participate in special projects and university initiatives as assigned
  • Support continuous improvement efforts that strengthen the student residential experience
  • Perform additional duties in support of housing and university operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ten (10) years of related facilities, housing operations, maintenance, or building management experience
  • Additional education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications, including:
  • High school diploma/GED with fourteen (14) years of related experience
  • Associate degree with twelve (12) years of related experience
  • Master's degree with eight (8) years of related experience
  • Doctoral degree with six (6) years of related experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory and team leadership experience
  • Experience overseeing facilities operations, maintenance programs, and vendor coordination
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and operational needs simultaneously
  • Knowledge of compliance standards, policies, procedures, and operational controls related to facilities management
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure systems, including communications, networks, cybersecurity systems, electrical systems, hazardous waste treatment systems, or water treatment systems

The anticipated salary for this position is $90,000 annually.
