Job Summary The Structured Cabling Technician roles, including Apprentice, Technician II, and Lead Technician levels, are responsible for supporting the installation, termination, testing, documentation, and maintenance of structured cabling systems for commercial and utility infrastructure projects. These positions support copper and fiber optic network installations within substations, office environments, and service-oriented construction projects. Responsibilities include structured cabling installation, IT closet buildouts, equipment setup, documentation, and adherence to industry and safety standards. Lead Technicians additionally oversee crews, coordinate with project stakeholders, and manage project execution. Install, route, secure, and terminate structured cabling systems including CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling
Dress and route cables into IT closets, modular furniture, substations, and outlet locations
Install and maintain cable pathways including J-hooks, D-rings, ladder racks, conduit, and cable trays
Perform cable management, labeling, dressing, and termination of patch panels, jacks, keystones, and RJ-45 modular plugs
Install and mount network equipment including wireless access points (WAPs), fiber ONTs, switches, and related hardware
Assist with IT closet buildouts including racks, patch panels, grounding, labeling, and cable organization
Conduct fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting using Fluke testers and OTDR equipment
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, scope of work documents, and installation plans
Complete required documentation, testing records, service reports, and as-built documentation accurately and on time
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and site safety standards
Report project progress, material needs, safety concerns, and installation issues to leadership personnel
Travel to various job sites throughout Southern California as needed
Operate within substations, office environments, and active construction or service-oriented project sites
Lead Technician Additional Responsibilities
Supervise, mentor, and support installation teams to ensure quality workmanship and timely project completion
Serve as the primary on-site contact for contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders
Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure compliance with all safety requirements and industry standards
Coordinate installation modifications and field changes with project management teams
Manage material usage, tool allocation, workforce planning, and labor coordination
Verify testing results and ensure completion of project documentation and reporting
Communicate project updates, delays, and change orders to project leadership
Support workforce development through technician training and mentoring
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of 2 years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems, telecommunications, or data cable installation preferred for mid-level and senior roles
Entry-level candidates with relevant training or apprenticeship experience are encouraged to apply
Working knowledge of BICSI installation standards preferred
OSHA 10 certification preferred
Scissor lift or boom lift certification preferred
Hilti, fall protection, and confined space certifications preferred
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete detailed paperwork and documentation accurately
Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain quality standards
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to work at heights, on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds when required
Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical labor for extended periods
Ability to travel between multiple job sites during the workday
Tools Required
Basic hand tools including screwdrivers, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, channel locks, cable stripper, punch-down tool, modular plug crimper, flashlight, hammer, wrench set, gloves, and tool pouch

Employees begin the workday at the designated office location to pick up company vehicles and equipment before traveling to job sites

Optional travel opportunities to Northern California or out-of-state project sites may be available but are not required
Work environment includes utility substations, office facilities, and service-oriented structured cabling projects
Position may require occasional overtime depending on project demands
