Job Summary The Structured Cabling Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the installation, routing, termination, and maintenance of low-voltage cabling systems in commercial construction and data center environments. This role supports structured cabling projects under the supervision of Lead Technicians and focuses on building foundational skills in network infrastructure, safety practices, and industry standards. The technician will work hands-on with copper and fiber cabling systems, cable pathways, and basic testing while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. This position offers on-the-job training, career development opportunities, and exposure to large-scale commercial and warehouse projects. Job Responsibilities
Install, pull, route, and secure CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling throughout commercial buildings and warehouse environments
Install and support cable pathways including J-hooks, D-rings, ladder racks, cable trays, and conduits
Dress, bundle, label, and organize cabling according to project standards
Terminate cables at patch panels, keystone jacks, outlets, and equipment racks using RJ-45 and related connectors
Assist with Wireless Access Point (WAP) installations and network infrastructure setup
Support basic cable testing and troubleshooting to verify connectivity and performance
Read and follow floor plans, blueprints, and written installation instructions
Gather tools, materials, and equipment needed for daily project tasks
Coordinate with Lead Technicians, team members, and other trades on active jobsites
Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas throughout the project lifecycle
Follow all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety procedures, including proper PPE usage and jobsite cleanup
Work in ceilings, on ladders, and on lifts while performing installation duties
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED required
0-2 years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage installation, telecommunications, construction, or related fields preferred
Basic understanding of CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling systems
Familiarity with cable installation practices, labeling standards, and basic termination methods
Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, floor plans, and technical instructions
OSHA 10 certification preferred
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment
Strong attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to learn industry standards and best practices
Ability to work in fast-paced commercial construction and warehouse environments
Flexibility to work overtime and travel to various jobsites as needed
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds with assistance when necessary
Ability to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined or elevated spaces
Ability to work in active construction and warehouse environments
Tools Required
Basic hand tools including multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel locks, cable stripper, punch down tool, flashlight, gloves, and tool pouch
Basic knowledge of power tools preferred
Steel toe or composite toe work boots required

Heavy overtime is expected based on project demands and scheduling requirements
