Job Summary The Structured Cabling Technician II is responsible for the installation, routing, termination, and maintenance of structured cabling systems supporting commercial construction and warehouse infrastructure projects. This role involves hands-on work with copper and fiber cabling, IT closet builds, cable pathway installation, and network device support within active construction environments. The technician is expected to perform all work safely, accurately, and in accordance with industry standards, project specifications, and company procedures. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity offering ongoing training, career development, and advancement within the telecom and low-voltage industry. Job Responsibilities
Install, route, and secure Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber cabling throughout commercial buildings and warehouse environments
Pull cables through ceilings, walls, conduits, and structured pathways
Install cable support systems including J-hooks, D-rings, ladder racks, cable trays, and conduits
Dress, bundle, route, and label cables according to project standards and documentation requirements
Terminate cables at patch panels, keystone jacks, outlets, modular plugs, and equipment racks
Install and mount wireless access points (WAPs) and related network devices
Assist with MDF and IDF closet builds, including rack installation, ladder racks, trays, sleeves, and cable management systems
Perform basic cable testing to verify continuity and functionality
Read and interpret floor plans, blueprints, schematics, and technical instructions
Coordinate daily tasks with Lead Technicians and other trades on active jobsites
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout the project lifecycle
Follow OSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and proper PPE requirements at all times
Participate in daily jobsite meetings to review project tasks, safety expectations, and work plans
Prepare tools, materials, and equipment needed for daily assignments
Clean and organize work areas at the end of each shift and prepare for upcoming tasks
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of 2 years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage installation, telecommunications, or commercial construction environments
Basic knowledge of Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling systems
Experience pulling, routing, organizing, and terminating cable in commercial or construction settings
Familiarity with cable labeling standards and basic cable testing procedures
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and written technical instructions
Experience using hand tools including snips, cable strippers, drills, punch down tools, crimpers, and testing equipment
Ability to work under the direction of Lead Technicians and collaborate with project teams
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Strong safety awareness and ability to work in active construction environments
BICSI Certification Level 1 or higher preferred
OSHA 10 certification preferred
Scissor lift certification preferred
Commercial construction experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined or ceiling spaces
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical labor for extended periods
Ability to work in active warehouse and commercial construction environments
Tools Required
Basic hand tools including multi-bit screwdriver, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel locks, cable stripper, punch down tool, modular plug crimper, flashlight, hammer, wrench set, gloves, and tool pouch
Steel toe or composite toe work boots required
