The Director, Brands Controlling US is a highly visible role that includes frequent interaction with the North America Extended Leadership Team and other key internal stakeholders. The role drives profitable brand growth by embedding financial discipline into marketing decisions, challenging performance across the P&L, and enabling fact-based, cross-functional steering.

You will lead the Brands Controlling function, with three direct reports, to drive financial discipline and rigor throughout the Marketing organisation, while delivering process and systems enhancements, performance analytics, and support for key strategic decision-making.

As a key member of the North America Finance Leadership Team, you will contribute to the sustainable advancement of the Finance function, ensuring strong talent development and continuity.

This role reports to the Vice President, Finance North America and is based in Stamford, CT on a hybrid working model, so you must be able to commute to Stamford three times per week.

Your Tasks

Financial Rigor and Governance



  • Contribute to an environment of increased financial awareness across the business whilst holding teams accountable to deliver their commitments.
  • Drive governance and risk mitigation principles in accordance with Beiersdorf guidelines.
  • Design sustainable processes to support the Marketing function in delivering business objectives.


Business Partnering



  • Build strong relationships with the Brand Leadership Team, including Marketing Directors and Vice Presidents for Nivea, Coppertone, and Derma Brands (Eucerin and Aquaphor), to jointly deliver the mid- and long-term P&Ls for the brands.
  • Partner and empower direct reports to enhance financial acumen of marketing teams to improve team performance.
  • Provide financial insights while contributing to business reviews and the S&OP process.
  • Deliver fact-based financial scenarios and impact analysis for decision-making.


Marketing Budget Management



  • Full ownership of the Marketing Budget management system (BASE), ensuring its integrity and functionality.
  • Raise management awareness of the potential Net Sales and KPI impacts of investment decisions.
  • Being a sparring partner and constructively challenging the spend allocation, based on ROI analysis


Performance Management



  • Contribute to monthly / quarterly business performance reviews through preparation and analysis of comprehensive and detailed results.
  • Challenge tactical decision-making to course-correct and deliver results.


Annual Business Planning



  • Partner with Marketing teams to build Brand plans with clear assumptions/drivers while tracking the performance at the brand and customer dimensions.
  • Serve as a challenger and sounding board on sales assumptions.


Leadership



  • Directly lead three team members towards reaching department, company and personal development goals.
  • Member of the North America Finance Leadership Team and the Extended Leadership Team.

Your Profile

  • BS/BA required. MBA in Finance or a related field highly desirable.
  • 7-12 years of Finance or similar experience at Beiersdorf or another FMCG company.
  • 3-5 years of commercial controlling and other financial experience in other types of roles
  • 3-5 years of experience leading a team.
  • Proven experience in business partnering and effectively building relationships.
  • High level of self-reflection and a drive to continuously raise the bar within the organization and within the team.
  • Strong business analytics skills, with the ability to influence through data.
  • Strong system skills including SAP, BI systems and comfort working with complex databases
  • Strong understanding of accounting and finance (P&L, Balance Sheet construction)
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Flexibility for occasional travel
  • Base Salary Range: $184,700K - $267,500K base salary
    Actual placement within the compensation range may vary depending on experience, skills and other factors.
