Network Security Engineer (Must have: Palo Alto & Fortinet) Location: Primarily Remote (20% onsite) Experience Level: Expert Overview We are seeking a* Network Security Engineer* to serve as a subject matter expert in enterprise security architecture and network engineering. This role is ideal for a highly experienced professional with deep expertise in Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls, along with a strong foundation in routing, switching, and data center networking. Candidates with hands-on experience migrating from Fortinet to Palo Alto environments are highly preferred. Key Responsibilities * Act as a security SME, providing guidance on best practices, architecture, and risk mitigation * Design, configure, deploy, and document secure firewall and network topologies * Develop and implement firewall policies aligned with cybersecurity standards * Perform end-to-end troubleshooting, owning issues through resolution and escalating to TAC when needed * Conduct and deliver Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for incidents and outages * Manage software upgrades, patching, and lifecycle maintenance of network/security devices * Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams and SOPs * Collaborate across technical and business teams to ensure secure and reliable operations Required Technical Skills * Hands-on expertise with: * Palo Alto Firewalls (deployment, configuration, policy management) * Fortinet Firewalls (FortiGate) * Proven experience with firewall migrations (Fortinet Palo Alto strongly preferred) * Strong networking including: * Routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, DMVPN * Switching: VLANs, trunking, spanning tree * Core networking: TCP/IP, subnetting, WAN architectures * Experience with: * Cisco routers and switches * Nexus 9000 (Nexus 9K) * VXLAN (required) * Solid understanding of network security principles and best practices Preferred Qualifications * Experience in large-scale enterprise or data center environments * Strong documentation and communication skills * Ability to work independently and lead initiatives * Experience collaborating with cybersecurity teams and adhering to security frameworks Top Skills * Network Security * Firewall Engineering * Palo Alto * Fortinet * Routing & Switching * Cisco Networking (Routers/Switches) * BGP * Nexus 9K / VXLAN Work Environment * Mostly remote role with occasional onsite requirements (~20%) * Collaborative, fast-paced environment supporting critical infrastructure Why Join Us? * Work on enterprise-scale network security initiatives * Play a key role in modernizing and securing infrastructure * Opportunity to lead high-impact firewall and network projects Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Edison, NJ.
