THE POSITION

The Custodial Worker 1 with the Department of Human Services plays an important role in helping the hospital stay clean and welcoming. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and supportive hospital environment through basic housekeeping and sewing tasks. This role is essential to keeping Danville State Hospital running smoothly and ensuring that patients, staff, and visitors have a pleasant and comfortable experience. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • General Cleaning: Clean and wipe surfaces, remove trash, and maintain sanitary conditions in assigned areas
  • Outdoor Upkeep: Sweep steps and ramps, clean entrance areas, and handle snow or ice removal
  • Equipment Care: Inspect and clean housekeeping tools, cords, and equipment surfaces to ensure safe operation
  • Sewing and Repairs: Repair clothing, linens, and textiles using hand tools and sewing machines
  • Laundry Support: Sort, tag, and mark clothing and linens and maintain the sewing room
  • Material Handling: Gather and dispose of waste, recyclable items, and hazardous materials following safety guidelines

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with every other weekend off, and a 30-minute lunch. This may change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime as needed
  • Free parking!
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
