DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps ensure the safe and steady movement of vehicles through major tunnel systems by performing maintenance, monitoring conditions, and responding to incidents. As a Tunnel Maintainer, you will perform the following duties:
- Tunnel Maintenance: Perform cleaning, repairs, and upkeep of tunnel structures and surrounding areas
- Incident Response: Assist motorists and first responders during traffic disruptions and restore normal traffic flow
- Condition Monitoring: Observe tunnel conditions such as airflow, fire risks, and over height vehicle concerns
- Communication: Use clear communication with employees and responders to maintain awareness during operations
- Equipment Operation: Operate vehicles, tools, and machinery required for maintenance, towing, and tunnel washing
- Work Zone Setup: Deploy cones, signs, and barriers to protect workers and guide traffic during lane closures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, rotating 24/7 operations.
- Work hours are varied and are based upon operational considerations. Shifts can range from the following: 9:30 PM - 5:30 AM; 5:30 AM - 1:30 PM; 1:30 PM - 9:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime, and shift work required.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $52,097 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in roadway maintenance and repair, emergency services, towing and roadside assistance, or traffic control work; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
- All employees must demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
- All employees must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed, or equivalent on their first day of employment.
- All employees must obtain within the probationary period an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders.
- All positions in this job require additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment during the probationary period.
