As the Senior Manager, Talent Development, you will lead the delivery of enterprise learning programs that build critical capabilities and support business performance across Smithfield Foods. You'll partner with HR and business leaders to turn priorities into practical, high-impact training solutions that are scalable and relevant.

In this role, you'll own end-to-end delivery, lead a high-performing team, and ensure programs are executed with quality and consistency. Success means going beyond delivery - driving measurable impact by helping leaders and teams apply skills that improve performance on the job.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead enterprise-wide training delivery: Oversee scalable learning programs that build critical capabilities, ensuring consistent, high-quality execution across functions, locations, and workforce segments.

  • Align learning to business strategy: Partner with HR and senior leaders to ensure training directly supports operational priorities, workforce needs, and long-term business goals.

  • Act as a strategic business partner: Collaborate with functional and operations leaders to assess capability gaps and translate them into targeted, actionable development solutions.

  • Design and deploy impactful programs: Utilize tools such as skills assessments, 360 feedback, and diagnostics to create focused initiatives that drive measurable outcomes.

  • Provide consultative leadership: Advise stakeholders on practical learning approaches that improve performance, drive behavior change, and strengthen leadership effectiveness.

  • Prioritize high-impact work: Balance enterprise and function-specific needs, allocating resources to initiatives that deliver the greatest business value.

  • Own and optimize delivery model: Lead the planning and execution of instructor-led, virtual, and blended training, adapting approaches to meet diverse and complex workforce needs.

  • Ensure quality and consistency at scale: Establish standards for facilitation, curriculum, and learner experience to drive engagement and effectiveness across all programs.

  • Scale leadership development: Deliver training supporting front-line through senior leaders across both hourly and salaried populations in operational environments.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team: Coach and build capability within talent development professionals, driving accountability, responsiveness, and delivery excellence.

  • Drive execution, governance, and impact: Oversee end-to-end delivery (intake, logistics), establish standard operating procedures and use data and feedback to measure effectiveness and continuously improve programs.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in business, education, technology, or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership required.

  • Expert knowledge of training and development principles, including learning principles, instructional design, performance management, and training evaluation.

  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking and planning, problem solving, decision making, and complex project management.

  • Demonstrated success in partnering with all levels of an organization, including skills in relationship building and gaining support for new initiatives.

  • Ability to inspire, motivate and guide others toward goal accomplishment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills needed for influencing, persuading, and negotiating.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • This position may require up to 30-50% travel; the successful candidate will be willing and able to meet travel requirements.

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • Experience with Workday Learning & Talent

  • Expert experience in the creation of training materials for remote or classroom instruction.

  • Expert user of content creation tools for interactive training materials, e.g., PowerPoint.
