Position Summary

The primary objective of the Senior Product Manager role is to meet or exceed revenue and profitability targets for the assigned product line or category. This individual will lead the development and execution of the overall strategy for their designated product category.

The role encompasses both downstream and upstream marketing, with a balanced emphasis on new product development as well as marketing and sales strategy execution.

In addition, this position may include responsibility for managing direct reports, along with oversight of their respective product categories, areas of responsibility, and global business considerations.

This role is specifically focused on the procedural operating room (OR), with primary responsibility for surgical instrumentation categories.

This role can be located at any of the following STERIS locations: Mentor, OH or Vernon Hills, IL. This role will require time spent in the Mentor, OH office. Additionally, this role will require domestic & global travel Estimated to be 20-30%.

What you will do as Senior Product Manager

Marketing Strategy Development, Execution & Program Management

  • Work closely with the commercial team to increase product penetration & utilization through the development of tools and programs that provide a seamless approach to selling
  • Collaboratively identify issues, opportunities and associated strategies within assigned product areas through frequent conversations and interactions with Customers, sales management and account managers
  • Drive, develop and deliver content used in sales meetings & training, national & regional conferences, events and webinars
  • Communicate with field representatives to assure awareness of product changes, pricing changes, new sales tools, corrective measures, etc

Leadership, Employee Development & Team Building

  • Provide strong leadership to drive short and long-term product /procedural planning process within assigned areas to achieve corporate goals
  • Select, manage, and develop a team of highly skilled Product Managers and Associate Product Managers (when direct reports are involved)
  • Win mind share with internal cross functional team members through a collaborative approach to identifying solutions based on data, building excitement and consensus specific to assigned product/procedural area to drive projects forward
  • Cultivate and utilize industry relationships to support procedural category Voice of Customer research and NPD.
  • Maintain cohesive Product Management approach to strategic issues across assigned product categories.

Procedural & Product Planning

  • Collaborate with sales and marketing leadership on the development/execution of Plans of Action (POAs) and new product launches including:
      • forecasting and financial planning/business case development
      • market potential/opportunity and target share by product line
      • needs based Customer segmentation
      • value proposition creation
      • competitive analysis
      • reimbursement, GPO / IDN trends
      • understanding of market pricing by product line
      • key issues and trends
      • strategies to support sales execution
      • product life cycle planning
      • product training
  • Drive planning and preparation for new product launches including forecasting, sales collateral, equipment evaluation requirements, pricing guidelines, and product training
  • Identify, establish and maintain productive relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Key Accounts (KAs) in the medical community -related to product areas of focus
  • Demonstrate a robust understanding of the competitive product marketplace
  • Keep informed on current market trends and sales analysis to sharpen ability to plan, review, adjust and approve product/procedural plans, including the identification of future product development opportunities
  • Provide pricing strategy stewardship within assigned product categories

Market Research & New Product Development

  • Provide strong leadership in all phases of the Stage Gate process
  • Provide strong commercial and clinical voice of Customer supported recommendations for NPD based on qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Support cross-functional new product development teams with market objectives when completing documentation (PRD, IOS, Labeling, etc.), feasibility testing, and risk analysis for new products and line extensions
  • Actively participate in product testing with clinicians to determine if product meets market needs through in vitro and Design Limited Market Release testing
  • Drive planning and preparation for new product launches including forecasting, sales collateral, equipment evaluation requirements, pricing guidelines, and product training.
  • Review industry publications and practices to ensure products meet Customer needs and industry guidelines
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field
  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant business experience of which 7 years should be in Product Management/Marketing
  • Travel: Ability to travel domestically and globally (20-30%)

Preferred

  • MBA or Graduate / Advanced degree preferred
  • Medical device product marketing experience preferred
  • US and international experience helpful

Skills

  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and project management capabilities
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exhibit a strong sense of urgency for executing strategic plans and achieving product revenue goals
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Pay range for this opportunity is$124,737.50-$161,425.00.This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
