The Data Engineer utilizes a diverse range of data-focused skills, experience, deep technical and analytical problem solving, and team-centered solutioning for complex problems to satisfy priority information enabling operations. This position requires strong attributes for problem solving, data analysis, troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and experimentation, often under time sensitive decisions. Roles and Responsibilities
A qualified candidate will perform the following duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:
Utilize statistical techniques to analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of data.
Automate and optimize data extraction, cleaning, processing, and analysis functions.
Develop, validate, and implement data models to solve problems and answer complex analytical questions.
Develop and implement novel statistical approaches to address complex issues.
Perform data science and engineering activities with minimal guidance and independently prepare reports detailing methodologies, results, and mission impacts.
Support the acquisition of systems, software, and data science-related capabilities, including documenting technical accomplishments and analytical findings.
Utilize statistical software packages such as SPSS, SAS, S-PLUS, and R to perform data analysis.
Develop and maintain programming solutions to extract, transform, and clean multi-terabyte databases.
Design, evaluate, and optimize Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines, including understanding data flows, component dependencies, system interactions, and outstanding implementation requirements.
Support the organization, storage, management, and integration of data across relational and non-relational database systems.
Assist with the provisioning, configuration, maintenance, security, and upgrading of AWS/cloud-based servers, databases, and infrastructure.
Support cloud networking and security configurations, including Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), subnets, routing, connectivity, security groups, network access restrictions, and firewall controls.
Utilize Python to review existing implementations, develop prototypes, automate processes, and support evolving data engineering solutions.
Evaluate Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and system-to-system integrations to assess functionality, dependencies, and technical implementation progress.
Collaborate with engineering and project teams using Agile methodologies to coordinate development activities, track technical progress, and support project deliverables.
Apply recent data science and engineering experience to develop, evaluate, and implement technical solutions supporting mission requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
5-10 years of progressive, relevant work experience, including significant data science or engineering experience within the last two years.
Experience developing and implementing methods for automation and optimization of data processes and products for presentation to upper management.
Demonstrated understanding of statistical analysis, including regression, anomaly detection, and clustering.
Experience creating data packages consisting of databases, technical reports, and interactive visualizations.
Effective communication skills to present data science activities, technical findings, and analytical products to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to integrate diverse data sources, including Open Source, Publicly Available Information (PAI), Commercially Available Information (CAI), and intelligence records, to produce comprehensive technical data packages.
Demonstrated ability to apply technical and analytical skills to solve complex problems.
Working knowledge of ETL pipelines, including data flow, pipeline architecture, component interactions, and data processing workflows.
Foundational understanding of relational and non-relational databases, including database management, data storage, organization, and retrieval.
Experience or working knowledge of AWS/cloud infrastructure, including provisioning, hosting, maintaining, securing, and upgrading cloud-based servers and databases.
Understanding of cloud networking and security principles, including VPCs, subnets, routing, network connectivity, security groups, access restrictions, service control policies, and firewall configurations.
Working knowledge of Python programming for data processing, automation, technical analysis, and development support.
Familiarity with REST APIs, API structures, and system-to-system integrations, including the ability to evaluate technical dependencies and integration progress.
Basic understanding of Agile principles, development workflows, and project coordination.
Programming skills sufficient to extract, transform, clean, and process large-scale datasets, including multi-terabyte databases.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience using commercially available data exploitation and visualization tools, including Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Power BI, and Wireshark.
Knowledge of National Intelligence Agencies and Department of Defense (DoD) organizations and mission environments.
Advanced knowledge of statistical methodologies, including linear models and multivariate analysis.
Experience in analytical tool development, identification, evaluation, and integration.
Master's degree in a science-related field.
Experience administering Linux and Windows servers, including system configuration, maintenance, patching, hardening, and security management.
Familiarity with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and administration of headless systems through command-line interfaces.
Experience developing automation scripts using Bash and/or PowerShell.
Familiarity with Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT), including associated data sources, analytical processes, or mission applications.
Hands-on experience supporting AWS cloud environments, including infrastructure administration, cloud security, networking, and database hosting.
Experience developing, troubleshooting, or optimizing ETL pipelines and data integration workflows.
Experience using Python to develop prototypes, evaluate existing applications, and support technical solution development.

The projected compensation range for this position is $175,000.00 to $185,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Castalia Systems' total compensation package for employees.
