THE POSITION

As a Historic Preservation Supervisor with the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office (PA SHPO), you will help guide the protection of historic properties across the Commonwealth. You will be supporting project reviews, leading a dedicated team, and working closely with state and federal partners. Your leadership will help improve planning, education, and documentation efforts statewide. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides leadership and coordination for the above ground environmental review program while supporting statewide preservation goals. You will guide staff, coordinate with partners, and support planning and review activities across agencies. As a Historic Preservation Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and guide staff responsible for above ground resource review and planning
  • Project Coordination: Manage work carried out under agreements with PennDOT, FHWA, and USACE
  • Workload Oversight: Monitor section assignments through PA-SHARE and adjust priorities as needed
  • Review Guidance: Support agencies and partners by providing direction on federal and state preservation requirements
  • Education Efforts: Prepare and deliver training and outreach materials related to historic preservation practices
  • Research Support: Collaborate with staff to develop methods and plans for identifying and evaluating above ground resources

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, with the exception of site visits/field work, in-person leadership meetings and staff collaboration scheduled one day per month in the office in Harrisburg. Specific days will be determined according to bureau needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Historic Preservation Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional experience in the identification, evaluation, and preservation of historic or archaeological resources; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • All employees must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for History, Archeology, Architectural History, Architecture, or Historic Architecture. Additional details regarding the Secretary of Interior Professional Qualification Standards can be found here.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have experience in advising and assisting state and federal agencies, organizations and or individuals with the consideration of historic properties in their project planning.
  • You must have experience interpreting and applying National Park Service Guidance with regards to the evaluation of historic properties for eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
  • You must have two years of supervisory experience.
  • You must have experience in public outreach, education, and public speaking.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Excellent computer and word processing skills using MS Office products and data management systems such as PA-SHARE
  • Demonstrate excellent ability working with a team of individuals and independently
