Duties and Responsibilities

  • We are seeking a postdoc to work on implementing, maintaining, and analyzing the data from two new flux towers in North Carolina designed to measure fluxes of nitrogen gas (N2O, NOx, and NH3) in agricultural settings using the flux-gradient technique.
  • The postdoc will work closely and under the supervision of Dr. Camilo Rey-Sanchez from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences and Dr. Alex Woodley from the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, and will be part of a larger team of scientists working on the Agricultural Nitrogen Use Efficiency Initiative project funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Foundation for Food and Agricultural Research in the US.
  • Support other graduate students in the program

Requirements and Preferences






Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm
Department Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in environmental science, atmospheric science, agronomy, agricultural engineering, or a closely related field
  • Coding experience in Matlab, R, or Python
  • Proven record of academic scholarship
  • Experience working with flux towers to measure gas exchange, or experience setting up meteorological and environmental instrumentation and using data loggers


Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Proficiency in micrometeorological theory and methods, in particular the use of the flux-gradient and eddy covariance technique to measure fluxes
  • Familiarity with the literature on nitrous oxide flux measurements or quantification of nitrogen losses to the atmosphere and through lateral fluxes in agricultural settings
  • Experience setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting flux towers and associated instrumentation
  • Experience working in agricultural systems in the US

Required License or Certification

  • A valid NC Driver's License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
  • A valid Driver's License must be maintained throughout employment.
