Backend Software Engineer - Distributed Systems & Platform Reliability Palo Alto, CA (Hybrid - 2 days onsite) We're looking for a backend software engineer who thrives on building and operating high-scale, distributed systems in production. This role is centered around platform services that power real-time, always-on systems, where performance, reliability, and system health are critical. You'll own services end-to-end - from design through deployment - and play a key role in keeping them stable and performant under real-world conditions. What You'll Be Working On * Designing and building backend services that support high-throughput, real-time data systems * Operating services in production, including monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning * Improving system reliability by identifying bottlenecks, reducing latency, and preventing failures * Building and scaling event-driven architectures and distributed systems * Collaborating across teams to design systems that are resilient, efficient, and easy to operate What We're Looking For * Experience building backend services in a microservices or distributed systems environment * Hands-on experience working with production systems (debugging issues, improving performance, supporting deployments) * Exposure to event-driven systems, messaging, or streaming architectures * Experience working in cloud-based, containerized environments * Strong understanding of system performance, scalability, and reliability What Makes This Role Interesting * Work on systems where performance and uptime truly matter * Own services end-to-end in a "you build it, you run it" environment * Solve real-world challenges around scale, latency, and system reliability * Be part of a team building modern platform systems that support real-time, data-driven applications Compensation * Pay range: $65-$75 per hour (W2) * Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and alignment with the role Additional Details * Location: Palo Alto, CA * Schedule: Hybrid (2 days onsite) * Contract opportunity with potential for extension Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Palo Alto, CA.
