Perform cardiac diagnostic procedures as ordered by physicians and assist in monitoring patients during stress testing and cardiac rehabilitation services. Coordinate patient scheduling and procedures, ensuring efficient workflow and a positive patient experience. Serve as a key liaison between patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support effective communication, continuity of care, and quality patient outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs procedures accurately providing high quality, safe patient care including: electrocardiograms, stress testing Holter monitoring and 30 day Event Monitors
  • Recognizes arrhythmias and/or takes appropriate action by notifying physician if EKG reads abnormal, acute MI, complete heart block, wide QRS, tachycardia or heart rate greater than 140.
  • Assess the quality of electrocardiographic recordings and corrects deficiencies whenever possible. If unable to correct deficiencies, documents on the graphic recording.
  • When appropriateness of procedure is in question, contacts the ordering physician for clarification and documents in the patient record
  • Educates the patient and family (as applicable) about the procedure and documents the process in the patient record. Assists with the orientation of new personnel and documents on orientation record.
  • Strictly adheres to Universal Precautions and proper use of body mechanics
  • Responds to appropriate STAT calls within 5 minutes. Responds appropriately in emergency situations
  • Documents patient and procedural information in the patient medical record completely, and with 98% accuracy
  • Assists with data collection for the SQI Program. Inventories and orders medical supplies to ensure operational levels and/or lets appropriate staff member know when supplies are low
  • Attends 70% of dept. educational programs and 70% of staff meetings. Attends all mandatory in-services or schedules makeup sessions. Assumes personal responsibility for own continuing education in order to maintain current knowledge in area of responsibility. Takes own initiative to maintain current CPR certification
  • Utilizes equipment according to established procedures and refers to manuals, as needed. Notifies coordinator/manager of equipment requiring major repair. Transports equipment to or notifies Biomedical Electronics of equipment in need of repair with appropriate paperwork completed. Responsible for contacting Environmental Services to maintain clean hallways, bathrooms and waiting room.
  • Responsible for processing all the EKG paperwork and orders. This involves correcting the clerical data errors and maintaining the
  • EKG storage system daily.
  • Help transporting patients when necessary.
  • Participates in weekend call Saturday & Sunday. To provide EKG through put and 30 Day Event Monitor hookup/education.
  • Help with answering the department phone calls. Assists with scheduling (when needed). Processing department paperwork and tracking accuracy of test being read by cardiologist in a timely fashion.
  • Responsible for rounding multiple times a day on all EKG machines located throughout the hospital. This includes daily maintenance and stocking of paper and electrodes and making sure all EKGs are transmitted to the EKG storage system
  • Responsible for working with a third party company (Preventice) to schedule, register, and download Holter monitor and Event monitor information. The EKG tech is also responsible for dealing with stat arrhythmias reports that are called and faxed from Preventice.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience performing electrocardiographic recordings (EKG, stress testing, holter monitoring) is preferred
  • Arrhythmia recognition preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days

$19.02 - $28.53
