What to Expect

Tesla Energy is hiring a Process Engineer to own fulfillment and labor planning standardization across our West Region warehouse network, based out of our Tracy, CA hub - one of the highest-volume fulfillment nodes in North America. You will sit at the intersection of process design, labor efficiency, and material flow, building scalable standards that make operations measurably more productive while reducing waste.

We believe the best processes are simple by design - intuitive enough that any operator can execute them without interpretation, and flexible enough to adapt as the business scales. This role is for someone who thinks in systems, not symptoms. Someone who proactively shapes how work gets done rather than reacting after it breaks - and who finds a way through every obstacle with optimism, ingenuity, and scrappiness.

What You'll Do
  • Own fulfillment and labor planning process standardization - designing efficient workflows that optimize associate productivity, material flow, equipment utilization, and inventory accuracy
  • Be a trusted partner to site operators and leadership - building relationships on the floor, understanding their day-to-day realities, and ensuring the standards you deploy actually work for the people using them
  • Design processes with simplicity at the core - removing ambiguous decision points, automating or centralizing tasks where possible, and creating standards that guide consistent action without requiring tribal knowledge
  • Develop staffing models, workstation layouts, standardized work, and process maps that enable consistent, scalable execution - whether a site is running at steady state or ramping through a volume surge
  • Analyze fulfillment performance data - labor output, pick rates, material availability, and inventory accuracy - to surface insights that connect process performance to business outcomes
  • Conduct time and motion studies, rebalance workloads, and model staffing scenarios to support efficient operations and reduce unplanned overtime
  • Lead end-to-end deployment of new standards - from pilot through network rollout - training subject matter experts and owning compliance after go-live
  • Benchmark fulfillment and labor planning practices across Tesla sites and the broader industry, identifying what works and scaling those patterns to reduce site-to-site variation
  • Proactively monitor week-over-week performance, flag gaps early, and drive corrective actions before small misses become systemic issues. Support weekly operational reviews with structured analysis and action plans tied to fulfillment and labor KPIs
  • Travel to regional sites (~15-25%) for hands-on deployment support and to maintain close working relationships with operators and regional leadership

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field - or 3+ years of equivalent experience in fulfillment operations, labor planning, inventory management, or process engineering within a warehouse or distribution environment
  • Strong command of Lean methodologies - Takt Time, Cycle Time, 5S, JIT, work measurement, and continuous improvement frameworks - with practical experience applying them in live operations
  • A big-picture thinker who designs for scale - building processes that eliminate waste upstream before it compounds downstream, and that remain adaptable as the network grows
  • Demonstrated ability to connect labor data and process metrics to strategic outcomes - not just reporting numbers, but translating them into decisions that move the business forward
  • Strong analytical skills - comfortable collecting, validating, and acting on both quantitative data and qualitative operator feedback, and disciplined about treating anecdotal input as a starting point rather than a conclusion
  • Clear, organized communicator who can translate complex processes into documentation that any operator can follow and any stakeholder can trust - standardizing communication as much as execution
  • Highly self-directed - able to manage multiple initiatives, stakeholders, and competing priorities without losing focus on what drives the most long-term impact
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Resourceful and persistent - comfortable in fast-moving environments with incomplete information, and energized by the challenge of finding creative solutions when the obvious path is blocked
