What to Expect
Join Tesla's Power Electronics Lab and help accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. We're seeking a skilled, driven PCBA Rework Technician to build, rework, and repair PCBAs, install advanced instrumentation for testing, and collaborate with Engineering, Design and other cross-functional teams. Your work will support new and upcoming power electronics projects, from high-voltage systems to advanced controls. Expect a fast-paced day of collaboration, problem-solving, and hands-on contribution, whether refining workflows, updating documentation, or proposing efficiency improvements. At Tesla, your work has real-world impact and clear paths for career growth.
What You'll Do
- Master soldering tools (iron/tweezers, hot air, preheaters/hot plate), hand tools, and power tools to populate, test, and repair prototype PCBAs, including through-hole and SMD components as small as 0402 and 0201 under a microscope
- Integrate advanced instrumentation such as thermocouples, strain gauges, and sensors onto PCBAs to enable precise testing and data collection
- Interpret electronic schematics and follow written or verbal instructions, often with limited documentation, while maintaining clear records that support collaboration and future iterations
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex systems using documentation, instrumentation, and input from Engineering. Identify root causes and recommend actionable solutions to keep projects on track
- Fabricate custom cable harnesses with strong proficiency in sleeving, wire types, connectors, and crimping for reliable high- and low-voltage setups
- Maintain an organized rework station and proactively manage tools and supplies to maximize uptime and efficiency
- Take on additional work beyond core rework, including process improvements, lab enhancements, and other opportunities to contribute ideas and grow skills in a high-impact environment
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in an engineering development environment, ideally electronics prototyping or rework
- IPC certification (highly preferred)
- Strong electrical prototyping skills, including soldering, wire harness fabrication, and creating harness diagrams for reliable, high-performance assemblies
- Proven troubleshooting ability at the board and component level, with a knack for spotting inefficiencies and proposing practical fixes
- A proactive, self-starting mindset, eager to streamline workflows, organize systems, and improve lab productivity
- A strong commitment to safety and adherence to Tesla policies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, curiosity to learn, and the flexibility to adapt as priorities shift in a fast-moving team
- Bonus: experience with Confluence, Jira, Microsoft 365, Python, LabVIEW, Modbus, CAN, or basic networking. These skills are useful for test setups and broader lab contributions
