SUMMARY: Under the general guidance of management, the Supervisor Cancer Registry facilitates the department's daily operations and oversees staff, supports compliance with Commission on Cancer accreditation standards, and performs registry work as needed. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Facilitates the department's daily operations by guiding workflows, practices and protocol. Provides initial and continuing onboarding and training to staff in system functions as well as procedures related to entering, processing and accessing information. Responds to user questions regarding system functionality. Assists in resolving complex issues related to review, analysis and abstracting of medical record information pertinent to documenting information on cancer patients. Serves as a subject matter expert. Reviews incoming cases and assigns them to staff. Monitors productivity and performance. Performs random quarterly reviews of work performed by Cancer Registry personnel to ensure correct abstraction and coding of information. Participates in and provides input to management regarding personnel decisions, including hiring, performance management, promotion and termination. Proposes updates to policies, procedures, and standards of practice for effective use and maintenance of the cancer registry department to management as appropriate. Participates in planning and provides administrative support for the Cancer Committee meetings. Receives and processes requests from physicians for information pertaining to cancer sites, incidence, treatment modes, survival rates, etc. Prepares computerized reports for clinician review. Maintains expertise with site-specific software programs (Metriq). Completes monthly data submissions to the Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS) per Commission on Cancer standards. Completes monthly data submissions to the Massachusetts State Cancer Registry and ensures the timeliness (reported within six months of diagnosis) and completeness of the data submitted. Receives audit lists from the Massachusetts State Cancer Registry and reviews against Saint Anne's cancer registry databases for completeness and accuracy of the data. Utilizes specialized cancer registry database management software to establish import and export links to other software packages and to download and upload data for review and reporting. Ensure proper operating conditions of computer equipment, making minor adjustments, as appropriate, and contacting others for more extensive maintenance. Maintains a level of knowledge and expertise pertinent to the position. Performs staff-level duties as needed, including case finding, abstraction and follow-up maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION: Associate degree in Cancer Registry Management (CRM) or Cancer Information Management (CIM) or Certified Tumor Registrar certification from the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) required. Familiarity and understanding of the content of the medical record. Trained in anatomy, physiology, and disease processes. Ability to recognize and understand clinical documentation pertinent for case abstraction. Knowledge of Cancer Registry data collection requirements of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, National Cancer Registrars Association, federal, state, local and other regulatory agencies. Knowledge of automated information and data management systems, including hardware and software interfaces. Requires interpersonal skills to effectively interact with various cancer registry data users within and outside the Hospital regarding cancer registry data. Organizational skills to effectively maintain various documents, reports, and manuals. EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years' experience in the Cancer Registry field. Experience should demonstrate ability to interpret more complex medical records, extent of disease and absence/presence of distant metastasis. Ability to meet and maintain established quality and productivity standards. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Supervises up to 3 full-time employees and additional consultants as needed.
