The College of Environmental Design - the top-ranked public school in the U.S. for architecture and the built environment (2026 QS World University Rankings) - is UC Berkeley's home for theory, research, innovation, and practice focused on the built environment. Housing the Departments of Architecture, City & Regional Planning, and Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning, as well as the Institute of Urban & Regional Development and five affiliated research centers, the college is an interdisciplinary creative community dedicated to solving the world's most pressing environmental problems. Research and teaching focus on design excellence, climate solutions, equity and social justice, and new materials and technologies. CED is located in Bauer Wurster Hall, named after architect and founding dean William W. Wurster and housing expert Catherine Bauer Wurster. Under the direction of the Director of Fabrication Services, this position is responsible for: providing instructions on safe use and supervising activity in the CED Fabrication Shop, Digital Fabrication Lab, Material Store, Shop Yard, and Spray Booth. Provide consultation and assistance to users on their projects. Assist with promoting a safe, professional, inclusive, and positive shop culture. Clean, organize, repair equipment, and maintain a safe work environment. ***Limited, Part-time Appointment - 40% FTE*** 60% Under the direction of the Director of Fabrication Services, this position is responsible for: providing instructions on safe use and supervising activity in the CED fabrication resources including the Fabrication Shop, Digital Fabrication Lab, Material Store, Shop Yard, and Spray Booth. Provide consultation and assistance to users on their projects. Assist with promoting a safe, professional, inclusive, and positive shop culture. Maintain adherence to EH&S, CalOSHA, and campus compliance rules and regulations. 20% Work in a collaborative team to schedule and provide safety orientations/trainings, order supplies, schedule maintenance/upgrades, and manage inventories. 10% Assist with departmental projects/builds, classrooms, shop/lab, and renovations. Plan and teach topical workshops and support department events: graduation, summer programs, etc. 10% Other duties as assigned, may include but not limited to: Building, repairing, and refinishing furniture.
