About the Job

The Associate Director of Membership Engagement is a key leadership position responsible for leading, directing, providing vision, strategy, and execution of all aspects of membership, marketing, and engagement. This role directly supports NODA's mission and strategic priorities by strengthening the member experience and expanding membership reach. The individual in this position must be able to make complex decisions with authority and understand the risk, liability and implications that could impact NODA, the University, and constituents/stakeholders. This position will supervise the contract positions related to marketing and communication.

This position will require occasional travel on overnight trips to attend events and flexibility to conduct work in the evenings and weekends as needed. This position will be remote with the expectation to meet in-person with Association staff and attend NODA events as required as well an occasional visit to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. The Associate Director of Membership Engagement will report directly to the Executive Director.

Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Member Management (50%)

  • Provide strategic vision and oversight for all membership-related initiatives, including recruitment, retention, onboarding, and engagement strategies across institutional, individual, student, and associate member categories
  • Manage the Membership Growth Plan to sustain current members and grow the total base in the United States and abroad
  • Work with the Member Engagement Committee as the staff partner ensuring the Board approved strategic priorities related to membership are implemented
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement Board-directed membership strategies, support educational program communities and drive targeted outreach efforts to ensure a consistent, member-centered approach across Communities, Conferences, and other engagement platforms
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, industry partners, government entities, and other institutions
  • Represent NODA and its programs at institutional meetings, on committees, and with external partners and agencies

Volunteer Engagement (30%)

  • Direct volunteer and community engagement efforts, including the development and implementation of volunteer programs, support for NODA Communities, and initiatives that foster inclusive member involvement - ensuring alignment with the Association's strategic priorities
  • Manage the NODA Connect communities for educational programs, including uploading resources and engaging members
  • Work with the Communities Implementation Committee as the staff partner providing guidance in the development of policies/practices and support of the Communities
  • Manage planning and logistics for the Graduate Student Symposium and the Transition Symposium
  • Oversee volunteer engagement to include (volunteer training programs, training protocol and implementation), that align with the Association's strategic priorities
  • Serve as the staff partner for the Engagement & Access Committee
  • Lead the All Committee Quarterly meetings

Marketing & Communications (20%)

  • Lead and manage marketing and communications strategies to promote membership value and enhance visibility of NODA programs, services, and events
  • Manage all logistics related to publications including producing, monitoring, and overseeing all publications, including development and implementation of schedules and deadlines
  • Oversee and support logistics for events as they relate to membership, including promotional publications, website updates, sponsorship communications, and registration strategies
  • Supervise the contract positions related to marketing and communication
Qualifications

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus at least two years of full-time experience working in nonprofit management, higher education, or other related areas or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years.
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex decisions, solve problems and work with volunteers
  • Previous experience with managing and implementing programs logistics and operations with demonstrated organizational skills and attention to details
  • Ability to be self-directed and work autonomously daily with capability to multi-task, make critical decisions and work with a variety of people and personalities
  • Be a team player and work with volunteers either by leading or taking direction
  • Organizational skills sufficient to perform multiple tasks while managing and monitoring many aspects of the member experiences and expectations
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence
  • Must be able to travel on overnight trips to attend events

About the Department

NODA is a nonprofit, membership Association comprised of professional administrators, students, faculty members as well as other higher education organizations. NODA has over 4,000 members in the U.S. and internationally, consisting of over 500 institutional memberships (public, private, 4-year and 2-year), bringing different perspectives, knowledge, and experiences. NODA's core purpose is to create an inclusive community of practice that enriches education, leadership, and professional development in the fields of college student orientation, transition, and retention. NODA staff are employees of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and are governed by an elected board of directors.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $62,254 - $62,750; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
