Position SummaryThe Gas Accounting Team is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the of gas costing information and the Company's compliance with state and federal regulations. In particular, the Accounting Analyst compiles and analyzes gas costing information used in financial reporting (SEC, IRS, NCUC, SCPSC, etc.), and fulfillment of regulatory requests. This position is responsible for recording all cost of gas entries, including all related regulatory deferred accounts and inventory accounts. The Gas Accounting Analyst works closely with other team members and departments to meet these obligations.The Gas Accounting Analyst is responsible for the receipt, analysis and reporting of gas cost accounting information from and to both internal and external sources. The accuracy and timeliness of the gas cost information analyzed by the Gas Accounting Analyst is critical and sensitive in nature. Strong interviewing and teamwork skills are required to perform information gathering, analysis, and reporting. Activities include the preparation and checking of journal entries affecting revenues, cost of gas, regulatory assets and liabilities, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory directives.This position requires a basic knowledge of accounting theory, terminology, and principles. The incumbent must have excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills. The position requires the ability to interface and communicate with all levels within the Company, as well as, with outside parties such as auditors, governmental authorities, and utility commission public staff members.
