Job Summary

Join the Loudoun County Department of General Services (DGS) as a Crew Chief within the Public Works Division. If you have experience in areas of stormwater inspection and maintenance, landscaping and routine maintenance and repairs of water and wastewater at facilities, we encourage you to apply!

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising daily activities of Public Works Technicians.
  • Overseeing street sign manufacturing, installation, and repair to meet County, State, and Federal standards.
  • Supervising landscaping and grounds maintenance.
  • Managing contracted commercial vendor services.
  • Developing work schedules and monitor project completion.
  • Ensuring equipment and machinery are maintained properly.
  • Ensuring operation of all external water and wastewater systems on County properties, including public and private wells, conventional and alternative septic systems, oil-water separators, grease traps, and sediment interceptors.
  • Directing field and shop activities during emergencies and snow events.
  • Supporting election-related activities as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must have the ability to interpret landscape and engineering plans and drawings, maintenance standards, and specifications, and ensure compliance.
This position is considered Essential. Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in stormwater and grounds infrastructure maintenance and repair, including two (2) years as a leader or in a supervisory role or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred qualifications:
Work Zone Traffic Safety and Flagging and Commercial Pesticide Applicator certificates.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of credit, criminal and DMV record background checks.

The successful candidate:

  • Must hold or obtain a valid Class "B" CDL within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, meet annual CDL/DOT requirements and comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program for Transportation Employees.
  • May be required to respond to County emergencies.
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to seventy (70) pounds.
