As a Principal Cybersecurity Engineer, you will be at the forefront of driving security initiatives within our Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) team!
This role is critical for protecting T-Mobile data by owning the enterprise cryptographic key management capabilities that govern key lifecycle, cryptographic services, and post-quantum readiness. It involves designing and operating HSM-backed key management, application-level cryptographic integrations, PQC readiness, and Cryptographic Bill of Materials (CBOM) maintenance. The role collaborates with application, cloud, compliance, and Federal Solutions teams to integrate cryptographic services across enterprise and regulated environments. The work sustains regulatory obligations, protects regulated customer and federal subscriber data, and positions T-Mobile against post-quantum cryptographic threats.
As the principal security advisor, you will collaborate closely with multi-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects and services to our enterprise customers, providing invaluable insights and guidance to uphold the highest standards of security. Job Responsibilities
- Conducts security assessments, code reviews, and vulnerability testing to identify and mitigate risks

- Serves as an authority in cybersecurity, providing guidance and leadership to various business units
- Drives strategic security initiatives to protect against cyber threats and ensure compliance with security standards
- Evaluates new technologies and processes for potential security vulnerabilities and recommends corrective actions
- Mentor peers and junior team members, imparting expertise in security technologies, enterprise solution design, and effective customer interaction.
- With deep expertise in cryptographic architecture, act as an authority in enterprise cryptographic key management, including Thales Payshield payment HSMs, Luna general-purpose HSMs, post-quantum cryptography (PQC) readiness, Cryptographic Bill of Materials (CBOM), and FIPS 140-2/140-3 compliance applicable to T-Mobile's enterprise and Federal Solutions environments.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree plus 7 years of related work experience OR Advanced degree with 5 years of related experience(required)
- Acceptable areas of study include Computer Science or Information Technology.(reequired)
- 7-10 years conducting security assessments and vulnerability testing to identify and mitigate risks in digital environments(preferred)
- 7-10 years developing and implementing cybersecurity measures across various technologies including mobile and IoT devices, cloud services, and network technologies(preferred)
- 7-10 years leading and collaborating with engineering teams to enhance security postures and strategic cybersecurity initiatives(preferred)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Domain expert in enterprise cryptographic key management, including Thales Payshield payment HSMs, Luna HSMs, key lifecycle operations, cryptographic integrations, and post-quantum cryptography readiness.
- Knowledge of federal & compliance regulations e.g. SOX, PCI, CPNI, FIPS 140-2/140-3, CMMC Level 2, and NIST 800-171/172
- Understanding of cryptographic platforms (ex - Thales Payshield, Luna HSMs, CipherTrust Manager), load balancers (ex - A10, F5), firewalls (ex - CheckPoint), Venafi, MDM (ex - Mobile Iron), Cloud (ex - AWS, Azure), Malware Protection (ex -FireEye), Advanced Persistent Threats (ex - Damballa), Privileged Accounts (ex - CyberArk), SIEM (ex - ArcSight), Log & Event (ex - Splunk), Intrusion IDS/IPS (ex - Symantec), Cloud Platform (ex - PCF, Docker), Scanning (ex - Qualys), AppSec (ex - Veracode)
- Experience with high level design architecture, security technologies, networking, web services and SOA.
- Advance knowledge of Scripting tools (Python/Perl/Shell/HTML/PHP)
- Be an authority in multiple cybersecurity subject areas, information security and systems
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) concepts, including their applications, benefits, risks, and impact on cybersecurity operations
- Excellent knowledge of threat modeling and escalation management
- Always act with integrity and collaborate with partners in a positive and productive manner
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in operating Thales Payshield payment HSMs, including key ceremony execution, host command development, and PCI PIN, EMV, and P2PE cryptographic workflows.
- Experience with security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, DLP, endpoint protection, and vulnerability scanners.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles and standard processes (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Familiarity with cryptographic platforms and standards (e.g., Thales CipherTrust, Luna Network HSMs, HashiCorp Vault, PKCS#11, KMIP) for enterprise key management and audit.
- Proficient in analyzing the cyber threat landscape to identify emerging threats, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) used by threat actors.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
- Certified in Risk & Informational Systems Control (CRISC)
- Thales Payshield or Luna HSM vendor certification

Base Pay Range: $127,800 - $230,700
Corporate Bonus Target: 20%

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
