The Marine Physical Laboratory Division (MPL) Division at SIO is seeking an Oceanographic Instrumentation Technician (MARINE TCHN 1). Under general supervision, the Oceanographic Instrumentation Technician shall operate and maintain oceanographic research instrumentation related to hydrophones, data recorders, and acoustic release transponders at sea and on shore. Additional duties involve:
Dr. Kaitlin Frasier is the primary investigator for the Scripps Machine Listening Laboratory. The Scripps Machine Listening Lab works at the intersection between oceanography and machine learning, extracting actionable insights from large underwater acoustic datasets, with a deep understanding of physical, biological and anthropogenic sound sources. The lab develops big data-based solutions to address current challenges in ocean observation, monitoring, and management using sound. QUALIFICATIONS

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $61,721 - $73,602 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $29.56 - $35.25 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
