The Budget/BusinessAnalyst plays acritical role insupporting the financialoperations of theUSC Caruso Departmentof Otolaryngology - Headand Neck Surgery. Reporting to theSenior Clinical AdministrativeDirector, this positionpartners with faculty, clinical leadership, andadministrative teams toprovide financial reporting, budgeting and transactions. The successful candidatewill support financialactivities across multiplefunding sources, includingoperating funds, researchsupport, gifts, endowments, and faculty start-up accounts. Thisposition requires stronganalytical skills, attentionto detail, andthe ability tomanage multiple prioritieswhile ensuring compliancewith university policiesand sponsor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer departmentaland special programbudgets, monitoring revenuesand expenditures tosupport sound financialdecision-making.
  • Set up andmaintain financial accounts, reconcile balances, preparecorrecting entries, andprocess budget adjustmentsin accordance withuniversity policies andsponsor guidelines.
  • Prepare monthly financialreports, analyze budget-to-actual variances, identify trends, andrecommend corrective actions.
  • Manage payroll costingallocations and payrollaccounting adjustmentsacross multiple fundtypes while analyzingpayroll expenditures.
  • Develop routine andad hoc financialreports to supportdepartmental leadershipand strategic planning.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities, create purchase requisitions, track purchase ordersthrough completion, andensure procurement activitiescomply with universitypolicies.
  • Process expense reimbursementsfor faculty, researchers, and staff whileproviding guidance onuniversity financial policiesand procedures.
  • Collaborate with KeckSchool of MedicineFinance, USC CentralFinance, and ResearchAdministration Shared Servicesto support departmentalfinancial operations.
  • Ensure compliance withUSC financial policies, healthcare regulations, and grant sponsorrequirements.
  • Prepare monthly invoicesfor contracted departmentalservices, audit incomingpayments, and maintainexternal clinical providertimesheet records.
  • Monitor purchase ordersand invoices, reconcileoutstanding obligations, and facilitate fiscalyear-end andgrant closeout activities.
  • Coordinate DEA licensedocumentation between providersand vendors tosupport controlled substancepurchasing compliance.
  • Track faculty academicfunding accounts, preparequarterly utilization reports, and assist facultywith expenditures andreimbursements.
  • Coordinate year-endfinancial transfers, reconciliations, and closing activities.
  • Perform other dutiesand special projectsas assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or a relatedfield.
  • Twoyears of experiencein budgeting, financialanalysis, healthcare finance, or an equivalentcombination of educationand experience.
  • Experience working collaborativelywith physicians, researchers, administrators, or other multidisciplinaryteams.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excelskills, including pivottables, data analysis, and working withlarge datasets.
  • Experience using financialmanagement systems anddata warehouse reportingtools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solvingabilities.
  • Excellent written andverbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention todetail and commitmentto data accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritizemultiple assignments ina fast-pacedacademic healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in academicmedicine, higher education, or healthcare finance, preferably within USCor Keck Medicineof USC.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Grant accounting, includingNIH and federallysponsored research
    • Clinical financial metricssuch as RVUsand payer mix
    • Procurement and purchasinglifecycle processes
  • Experience using Workdayand Concur.

The hourly rate range for this position is$34.00 - $35.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Experience: 1 year
Minimum Skills: Business administration, accounting or related degree and budget experience including knowledge of government and fund accounting. Strong computer skills with use of automated spreadsheets.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree
Preferred Experience: 2 years
Preferred Skills: University budget experience and knowledge of university financial systems.
