The Dosimetrist produces radiation dose distributions and dose calculations in collaboration with the radiation oncologist to ensure that radiation treatment promotes the most lethal radiation dose with the fewest side effects to the patient's healthy organs. Working under minimal supervision, this role ensures the safety of patients during treatment.

Essential Job Function

  • Performs treatment planning and dose calculations to develop optimal radiation therapy plans for patients.
  • Determines the arrangement of beams to deliver the radiation to the tumor, while minimizing damage to normal organs.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of treatment plans and calculations to meet regulatory and quality assurance standards.
  • Utilizes imaging data, such as CT scans, MRIs, and PET scans, to accurately delineate target volumes and critical structures during treatment planning.
  • Verifies treatment delivery parameters, including machine settings, treatment aids, and patient positions to ensure accurate and safe radiation therapy delivery.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Required: Graduate of a Radiation Therapy Technology Program or a Certified Medical Dosimetrist Program; Successful completion of the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) exam within 3 years of hire, resulting in certification as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD). The CMD certification must be maintained while employed.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree.

Experience

  • Preferred: 3 years working as an independently functioning medical dosimetrist.

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required: Certified Medical Dosimetrist via Medical Dosimetry Certification Board exam within 3 years of hire.
