The UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art is a newly unified museum that brings together the academic depth of UC Irvine with the public presence of a major regional art institution. Led by Museum Director Kathryn Kanjo, the museum, brings together two renowned institutions under a shared vision of public access, scholarship, and meaningful cultural engagement across Orange County and beyond.

The museum cares for a collection of more than 9,000 works tracing California art from the nineteenth century to today. As the museum moves toward a single, consolidated home, its work will be centered in the 53,000-square-foot public-facing building in Costa Mesa designed for exhibitions, programs, and community gathering-bringing together education, research, and public engagement under one roof.

Your Role on the Team

The UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art seeks an organized and creative Digital Media Specialist to join the External Affairs team. Reporting to the Senior Director of External Affairs, this role supports shaping both external storytelling and internal interpretive media for the museum and supports the museum's digital presence across social media, web, and email. The Digital Media Specialist bridges storytelling, technology, and strategy to translate exhibitions, programs, and institutional priorities into dynamic, accessible digital content that connect audiences to the museum and its art. This position will manage and grow the museum's social media platforms through both organic content and paid campaigns, create and edit social video, maintain and update web content using WordPress, and format and distribute email communications. This role involves building and maintaining analytics reports to evaluate what's working and bring data-informed insights to the team. This position works collaboratively across the museum to advance the museum's digital presence across social media, video, photography, and other multimedia platforms, while contributing to interpretive and educational content in close collaboration with colleagues across the institution. The successful candidate for this position will bring a working knowledge of current digital platforms and best practices, ensuring all digital initiatives are executed with both creative integrity and institutional alignment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in art and culture strongly desired.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Strong visual storytelling skills with a proven ability to translate complex or scholarly ideas into engaging, accessible content for broad and diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to work within an established brand voice and visual identity - adapting content for different platforms and audiences while maintaining consistency.
  • Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, content strategy, and digital content distribution best practices, including thorough knowledge of content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs. Working knowledge of WordPress, its available functionality and structure. Also, basic familiarity of HTML5 and CSS3 code is ideal.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistent quality and brand standards across all content.
  • Understanding of digital accessibility best practices, including captioning, alt text, and inclusive design, complemented by a thorough understanding of organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, supported by thorough interpersonal communication skills.
  • Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.
  • Bachelor's degree in digital media, marketing, communications, journalism, art, or a closely related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in digital media production.

Preferred:

  • Experience within arts, culture, higher education, or a comparable environment

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $81,600- $95,000 (Annual).
