Job Summary

Under supervision by the Production Manager, serve as a Stage Manager for the majority of the performances produced by the UC Davis Department of Music.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • No Minimum Education required.
  • Experience stage-managing a music performance.
  • Experience working with and leading a crew that has a variety of experience levels, including student crew members.
  • Experience acting in one or more of the following capacities in a performance setting: light board operator, live-audio mixing engineer, or video technician. Experience operating power tools, hand tools, and pneumatic equipment within safety guidelines.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of users, including regional, national, or internationally-known artists. Experience using electronic scheduling software, as well as diagram-making software (examples include Vectorworks, OmniGraffle, VISIO, CAD, Google Sketch).
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate both orally and in writing, using software such as Microsoft Office, Office 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and others.
  • Skills to effectively and cooperatively with constituents from diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, age, and levels of experience.
  • Organizational skills to manage the details and tasks associated with executing successful events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR certification and basic first aid skills.
  • Experience reading music scores, and calling cues from same.
  • Experience playing a variety of musical instruments or background working with different musical instruments and ensembles.
  • Experience operating professional-grade digital projectors, screens, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Experience using ETC lighting network equipment and LED lighting instruments and controls.
  • Experience operating sound-reinforcement and audio-recording equipment, including digital and analog components.
  • Experience troubleshooting audio and video equipment issues.
  • Knowledge of different types of musical instruments and how to safely move each type.
  • Knowledge of current state and federal OSHA standards applicable to professional theatrical environments.

Department Overview

The Department of Music produces over 100 high-profile concerts each year in the Pitzer Center, Music Building or the Mondavi Center for Performing Arts. The Stage Manager is primarily responsible for coordination of concert activities, instruments and gear between department staff, performers, and other artists.

Work Environment
