Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic

This position supports the upkeep and repair of construction equipment, trucks and automobiles within the Cumberland County Maintenance Organization. The work focuses on diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Vehicle Repairs: Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment
• Preventative Maintenance: Carry out scheduled maintenance, diagnostics and tune-ups
• System Servicing: Maintain hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems
• Safety Inspections: Perform official state safety and emissions inspections and complete required paperwork
• Equipment Care: Repair and maintain motorized hand tools and report missing or damaged parts
• Work Area Safety: Follow safety procedures, identify hazards, and maintain a clean work environment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Some travel, overtime, and shift work may be required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License at time of application.
• This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period.
• This position requires employee to obtain an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.

Additional Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at time of application.
• This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1 or 4 Inspection Mechanic Certification at time of application.
• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
