Involves assessing organizational and strategic issues and providing guidance through organizational development solutions such as facilitating assessments, strategic planning, and culture-change and process-oriented approaches to enhance institutional performance. Consults with leaders, departments, and committees to address root causes of organizational effectiveness issues using a systematic approach. Analyzes current organizational purpose, structure, relationships, policies, systems, and data. Recommends and facilitates improvements ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.

Custom Scope

This role is a great fit for someone early in their career who wants to grow into organizational consulting - you don't need a background in this exact field, but you should be comfortable working with people, solving problems, and learning on the job. You'll help departments, schools, and teams across UCSF work through challenges and improve how they operate, with guidance from experienced colleagues every step of the way. You'll learn how to look at a situation from multiple angles, figure out what's really going on, and help recommend solutions that make sense. You'll get regular direction and support as you take on new types of projects, including some exposure to bigger-picture strategic planning. Over time, you'll build confidence making judgment calls about the best way to solve a problem - all while being part of a team that genuinely invests in your growth.

Department Overview

UCSF's School of Medicine Dean's Office Strategic Programs & Digital Innovation Department (SOM P&I) is a team of collaborative innovators that deliver practical, holistic, and measurable solutions for faculty, departmental and enterprise initiatives in the School of Medicine.

SOM P&I is closely aligned with the Dean's Office priorities, providing strategic support on enterprise-wide projects, driving process design and transformation, as well as effective change management. SOM P&I's team of technical experts also provides digital solutions, technical services, and program incubation. Think of SOM P&I as a team of highly skilled internal consultants with deep knowledge of the UCSF ecosystem who are available to deliver practical, integrated, and innovative solutions.

Organizational Change and Project Management

Participates as a team member on large organizational change projects or leads small projects. Applies organizational development concepts to perform complex analysis to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and / or resource allocations.

Problem Resolution

Independently selects methods and techniques for obtaining appropriate resolution.

Organizational Assessment and Improvement

Assesses medium to complex situations or problems, identifies desired improvements, works with clients to address identified issues and implement improvements in alignment with organizational strategy.

Communications and Consulting

Addresses questions, concerns and consulting engagements through creating and executing on communications plans that are appropriate for audience and project.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years of experience or equivalent experience / training.
