Job Description

Assists in providing library materials to nonaffiliated requestors. Primary responsibilities are to process requests for returnable and non-returnable items from various sources, meet our consortia agreements for prompt service, and direct student assistants in the accomplishment of these responsibilities.

Key Job Duties:
- Prepares daily interlibrary lending requests for printing and searching. Verifies both print and digital requests in local catalog for ownership, circulation status, and location.
- Retrieves materials from Ellis Library print and digital collections to fulfill requests.
- Determines location for of non-Ellis Library material requests, (including specialized libraries, University of Missouri Libraries Depository, and Special Collections). Asks for these materials to be sent to Ellis Library for shipping.
- Troubleshoots and triages problems from various requesters - including those from our own staff and from staff outside our institution.
- Ensures that all requests are answered promptly in accordance with agreements between our consortia partners and according to best practices for ILL delivery service.
- Determines appropriate shipping method and prepares books to be shipped to other libraries; prepares mailing labels and the charging of books through the circulation system.
- Updates interlibrary lending requests for MU, UM and MOBIUS libraries utilizing appropriate library systems, such as FOLIO (our integrated library system), OpenRS (the MOBIUS borrowing platform), and ILLiad (resource sharing management software).
- Discharges returnable items from other libraries in the library's circulation system and updates records using ILLiad. Renews books when requested.
- Records and updates statistics relevant to unit.
- Monitors and orders shipping and office supplies as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Shift

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six months of library experience. Directly related education or training may be substituted for experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to explain issues clearly and work to satisfactorily resolve problems.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work with others collaboratively and respectfully.
- Ability to exercise discretion and judgment including handling confidential patron information.
- Competence using computer software and equipment.

NOTE: This position requires some physical stamina and involves moving materials and related physical actions part of the workday. Must be able to move fully loaded book trucks (at least 200 lbs.). Must be able to read call numbers on books located on shelves at ground level and up to nine feet in height and where lighting is diminished; ladders and footstools are available.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $16 - $16.70/hr

Grade: GGS 006
