POSITION TITLE: Youth Coordinator

DETAIL: The purpose is to assist the Corps Officers with the ministry and mission of the Renton Community Service. Must provide leadership of the children's and youth ministry departments. Evangelism, pastoral care and leadership development should take priority. SCOPE OF POSITION: In coordination with the Corps Officers, the Youth Coordinator will assume a variety of responsibilities geared towards providing relevant and meaningful programs and activities for children and youth in the corps, after school program and community. This position will reflect a significant emphasis on program and relational ministry specifically directed to youth programs at the corps, including assisting in program planning and anticipated outcomes. They will assist with a variety of corps and ministry activities and programs including but not limited to: Seasonal Assistance, Kettles, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and other Corps programs. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicant must be at least 21 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED is required. College degree or experience preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: youth work, programming, teen development, etc.
- A valid First Aid CPR/AED certificate
- A valid Washington driver's license
- Must pass background check and Motor Vehicle Record Check

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
- Microsoft Word and Excel required
- Microsoft PowerPoint, helpful
- Outlook 2016, helpful
- Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in coordinating and overseeing youth programs such as: Wednesday Night, Discipleship:
- Programming
- Schedule
- Snacks & Other Food
- Assemblies/Chapel Meetings
- Sign Ups, Pick Ups, applications & payments
- Ensuring that proper Salvation Army policies and procedures are followed in the program
- Assist in planning evangelistic outreach to youth in the Renton area.
- Assist in coordinating pastoral care for youth ensuring that regular contact is made, including personal visits
- Assist as needed in the planning and implementation of programs such as: Troops, YPL (Teen) Nights, VBS, Day Camp, Bible Studies, etc.
- Assist the corps officers in the planning and implementation of special youth events
- Assist in the coordination of summer camping program
- Assist with weekly Junior Church and youth Sunday School classes, with a special emphasis on the teen class
- Answer incoming phone calls and determine the most appropriate resolution
- Create physical files as needed
- Maintain and update contact information
- Recruit and work with the ministry staff, the Sunday School Superintendent, teachers and other lay leaders to promote growth of the Sunday School program.
- Bible Studies: Work in cooperation with the Corps Officers and other ministry staff to promote small group Bible Studies
- Promote and develop plans to build relationships with campers in camping programs and parents, to promote corps programs
- Be involved in recruiting, registration, submitting paperwork, transportation and other duties involving summer camps and other youth programs away from corps
- Work with the ministry staff, the Sunday School Superintendent, teachers and other lay leaders to promote growth of the Sunday school program.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
- Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls;
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. (usually file boxes) repetitively and occasionally an item up to 40 lbs
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to travel
