The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Summary:

Our Professional Coding Audit and Education team partners with physicians, advanced practice professionals, and operational leaders to strengthen provider documentation, professional-fee coding accuracy and compliance across a large multispecialty health system. In this senior, primarily remote position, you will independently review professional provider documentation, translate findings into practical education, and help clinical and executive partners resolve complex coding questions.

A typical day as a Professional Coding Provider Educator may look like...

  • Conduct risk-based, opportunity-driven, specialty-specific, and provider-focused professional coding and documentation audits.
  • Evaluate CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, E/M, medical necessity, and professional billing accuracy.
  • Research and apply authoritative CPT, CMS, Novitas, NCCI, and payer guidance effective for the date of service.
  • Independently synthesize audit findings and regulatory guidance into concise reports, executive summaries, tip sheets, and frequent provider-facing PowerPoint presentations.
  • Deliver respectful, practical education to physicians and advanced practice professionals based on audit findings and documentation improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze a high volume of questions from providers, practice and regional managers, and senior executives; identify the core issue and provide guidance or engage the appropriate organizational team.
  • Maintain specialty expertise while supporting additional specialties as volume, risk, regulatory changes, and organizational priorities require.

  • You work independently, manage competing priorities, and require limited day-to-day direction after organizational onboarding.
  • You combine strong professional coding knowledge with critical thinking, sound judgment, and careful source validation.
  • You independently create polished PowerPoint education and explain complex requirements clearly to clinical and executive audiences.
  • You recognize the difference between coding guidance, documentation improvement, payer policy, and operational or workflow concerns.
  • You are comfortable researching unfamiliar specialty issues, acknowledging uncertainty, and professionally defending well-supported conclusions.

To be consider for this role you must meet the below requirements:

  • Active AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential.
  • CPC-I strongly preferred
  • CPMA strongly preferred at hire and required within six months of employment if not already held.
  • At least five years of recent professional fee coding experience, including provider documentation reviews or audits and physician or advanced practice professional education.
  • Advanced expertise in at least one clinical specialty; priority needs include:
    • Cardiology and Orthopedics, with Urology, Neurology, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or another high-volume specialty also valued.
  • Demonstrated advanced PowerPoint creation, coding research, written audit reporting, presentation, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Experience in a large multispecialty medical group, academic medical center, or integrated health system and Epic experience preferred.
  • Willingness to support specialties outside the primary area of expertise based on organizational needs.
  • Ability to attend planned on-site meetings, provider education, and business travel as required.
    • Primarily remote, must reside in NJ, NY, or PA.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience preferred.
