Under the direct supervision of the Urology Practice Manager,the Urology Nurse Supervisor, and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, the Urology RN performs a wide variety of patient care activities. These include: prioritizing and assisting with patient triage processing and preparation; assisting with urology examinations; administering medications; collecting and preparing laboratory tests; providing patient education; assisting with rooming and completing vital intake for patients; and assisting with in-basket messages. The RN will also assist in pre-procedure data collection, assist the physician and team during procedures, and assist in the post-procedure recovery area. This position requires initiative with the ability to work in a busy Urology clinic.

In support of our growing patient-centered Care Navigation Hub, this RN position will also assist in phone symptom triage, appointment scheduling, referral assessment, care coordination, pre/post hospital and procedural follow-up with Urology patients, as part of our growing patient-centered Care Navigation Hub.

This RN will also provide sick-call, vacation, and messaging coverage for the urology clinic team. The RN must consistently deliver an excellent experience for patients, providers, and team members in both virtual and in-clinic environments. Strong clinical judgment and communication skills are required for effective collaboration and care coordination across healthcare teams, ensuring optimal care for patients and families in a busy outpatient urology setting.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing

• RN License issued by the State of California

• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date

• Must have a minimum of three (3) years of active RN experience

• At least one (1) year of RN telephone triage experience

• Experience providing care to urology patients, with demonstrated knowledge of common urological conditions, treatments, procedures, and post-operative care.

• Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, consistently demonstrating empathy and kindness with staff and patients

• Ability to perform triage and manage critical or urgent situations with speed, accuracy, and tact

• Proven independent thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, and prioritization skills

• BSN
• ACLS certification and/or UCSD ART
• Outpatient urology experience
• Surgical and/or ambulatory care experience
• Previous telephone triage experience
• Recent oncology experience
• Acute care experience (ICU or med/surg)
• AIDET or other customer service training experience
• Bilingual in Spanish/English
• Procedural experience

• Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the Medical Center's business needs

• Need to be flexible on days and hours worked including some weekends
