Waste Connections Central Region Office has an immediate opening for a Regional HR Specialist. This position assists and supports the Central Region Human Resources team in delivering HR programs, compliance initiatives, employee support, onboarding, engagement activities, reporting, and special projects across the region.
Position Summary
- Assist the Central Region Human Resources team with employee relations, compliance activities, onboarding, engagement initiatives, reporting, and HR programs.
- Provide administrative and operational support to HR leadership and field operations while helping ensure a positive employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Human Resources team with the execution of HR programs, policies, and initiatives.
- Support managers and employees by responding to HR-related inquiries and directing questions to the appropriate HR team member.
- Assist with preparing, maintaining, and distributing HR reports, metrics, and workforce data.
- Support employee onboarding and orientation activities.
- Assist with employee engagement activities, employee surveys, and recognition initiatives.
- Provide administrative support for employee relations matters and investigations.
- Assist with leave of absence tracking, workers compensation administration, and accommodation processes.
- Support HR compliance efforts, including labor law postings, audits, personnel records, and reporting requirements.
- Assist the field with Driver Qualification File compliance and related documentation.
- Coordinate and conduct exit interviews and compile feedback for HR review.
- Assist in coordinating training sessions, regional meetings, and HR communications.
- Support the development of presentations, training materials, and meeting agendas.
- Assist the HR team with acquisitions, integrations, and special projects.
- Provide administrative support for employee programs and initiatives as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience supporting Human Resources, Recruiting, Benefits, Leave Administration, Workers Compensation, Payroll, or related functions preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Workday or similar HRIS experience preferred.
Education and Certifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or Bachelor degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or other HR certification preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Travel
- Occasional travel within the Central Region (approximately 10%).
