Department Overview

The Marketing Division is responsible for the sales and retention of new and existing group accounts, maintenance and service of such accounts and upgrading of business to these accounts. It is also responsible for individual, senior products and long term care sales and retention. Sales and product support involve the entire scope of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama coverage, including health, dental, long term care, life and account-based products. The Marketing Division is also responsible for product development and management, product profitability, advertising, direct marketing, marketing communications and marketing research and development.

Primary Responsibilities

The Marketing Communications Specialist I is responsible for developing, creating, preparing, evaluating, and presenting communication materials required to effectively educate existing and prospective groups, group members, and/or direct consumers about Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama products and services. This position supports the Blue Advantage and Over 65 product lines by creating and maintaining CMS-required and other regulated communication materials for Medicare-eligible audiences. These efforts will support corporate goals and objectives as well as the specific requester's objectives, while addressing the needs and concerns of the audience. All Marketing Communications materials must be produced in a timely and cost-effective manner that maintains and/or enhances our corporate image.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience building relationships and identifying necessary information to effectively communicate
  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple tasks, deadlines and requests in a timely manner
  • Experience writing and editing content
  • Experience adhering to communication standards
  • Experience in project management is preferred
  • Quality assurance/review experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry preferred
  • Experience working in a corporate environment, particularly within marketing, communications, or related business functions preferred
  • Experience with Medicare products, services, regulations, and senior market programs preferred
  • Experience interpreting Medicare guidelines and CMS mandates preferred
  • Experience creating and/or maintaining regulated and mandated communication materials preferred

*Note: Willing to fill at a higher level based on experience.

Work Location

The work schedule for this position will be hybrid (onsite/remote). Business areas reserve the right to require associates to return to the office as needed, based on performance or other business considerations. A hybrid work schedule is subject to amendment or termination at any time by the Company.
